Exploring Life & Business with Tanner Christensen of Christensen Chiropractic

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tanner Christensen.

Hi Tanner, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I graduated from Cleveland Chiropractic school in December of 2018. My wife and I wanted to stay in Kansas City, so I got my first job as an Associate Chiropractor in Overland Park, KS. I was at that practice for about 9 months and learned a lot and was able to treat many patients and gain hands on experience. The practice style was not for me so I went looking for a new opportunity. I met two guys that had small practices in Ottawa, KS and Peculiar, MO and they were looking for a chiropractor to come in and run these practices because they had another business in Kansas City that was gonna require their time. I took the job and worked at both practices each of them 2 1/2 days a week and traveled back and forth between the two. After about a 1 year i reached out to the owner of the Ottawa location and asked if he would sell the practice to me. I bought the Ottawa location and began to work their full time and found a replacement for the Peculiar location before I left. I have now been practicing in Ottawa, KS for almost 6 years. I started with just me and now I have 3 chiropractic assistants and one associate doctor on my team. I have added multiple therapies and changes to the clinic in able to better help out our patients and Ottawa community.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The road has had some up and downs but mostly positive. When I first started at the new opportunity in Ottawa, KS and Peculiar, MO it was right before Covid and then Covid hit in March of 2020 and I had to work through that but thankfully with the help of patients and the community my business came out on the other side and continues to grow. I have made mistakes along the road with also not hiring the best employees that I had to let go because they didn’t have the right vision and views for my company. There have been times too where I invested money into marketing that sometimes didn’t turn out but it has helped me grow as a business learner and chiropractor. I wouldn’t be where I am today though without those struggles.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?

Who else deserves credit in your story?
My wife helps out with my business and has always supported my business. She is an accountant so she keeps my books up to date and helps out with payroll. I have had other chiropractors before me that I have asked questions when need and gotten advice. I have also done some coaching in the past that has given me ideas for growth and for adding specific systems to be more efficient.
