Today we’d like to introduce you to Leyla Sufi.
Hi Leyla, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
My name is Leyla Sufi, I moved to Kansas City in 2018.
Prior to finding my love for skincare I’ve always loved everything beauty and self care.
My journey into skincare started with my own struggles. I dealt with persistent skin concerns and couldn’t find the right products or services that truly worked for me. That frustration is what sparked my passion for esthetics and wanting to help others feel confident in their skin.
I knew I loved skincare, but people around me often said it wasn’t a “smart” career choice. Despite that, I followed my passion and enrolled in esthetician school in late 2019 right before the pandemic shut everything down.
While attending school, I started practicing facials on my husband in our spare bedroom of our apartment. When people noticed the difference in his skin, they started asking for facials too. As the world reopened, jobs were scarce, so I decided to open my own studio. That’s how Leyla Sufi Skin (originally Leyla Sufi Beauty Co) began.
One of my biggest challenges was starting a business in a city where I didn’t know many people. I built my clientele by sharing my work on social media showing videos of facials, client results, and before and afters. Over time, awareness had built up and clients started coming in.
Today, Leyla Sufi Skin is known for personalized, results driven treatments and hospitality. Why compromise between results and relaxation? My approach goes beyond skincare I focus on lifestyle factors like diet, habits, and stress, all while providing expert care. I’m proud of the results I’ve been able to give my clients and the safe space I’ve created for them to feel heard, cared for, and confident.
This is only the beginning for me. I look forward to continuing to grow my business and eventually stepping into education to help guide other estheticians and service providers.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Definitely not a smooth road, but every challenge has taught me something valuable. One of the biggest struggles was starting my business in a city where I didn’t have a network. I had to build my clientele from scratch, which meant constantly showing up on social media, educating people, and sharing my work to gain trust. Most importantly allowing my craft and skills to speak for me.
Another challenge was starting right after esthetician school during the pandemic. With businesses closed and no one hiring, I had to pivot quickly and create my own opportunity by opening a small studio.
While also finding more education opportunities to learn about skincare, services, ingredients etc
On top of that, there were the usual growing pains of learning how to run a business from marketing to client management all while staying true to my passion for skincare.
But these struggles helped me build resilience, stay creative, and most importantly, create a business that reflects who I am and how I want my clients to feel.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Leyla Sufi Skin?

Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
Absolutely. Having a mentor or coach has been life-changing for me. Over the past three years, working with mentors has given me clarity, pushed me out of my comfort zone, and helped me grow both personally and professionally. It’s one of the best investments I’ve made in myself. If I could go back I would’ve hired my mentor even sooner. I believe every business owner regardless of what industry should invest in both their business and personal self.
When it comes to networking, It might feel uncomfortable at first, but once you start working the room and build your confidence, it becomes second nature. Networking isn’t just about immediate opportunities it’s about planting seeds for future growth. Who you know can open doors you didn’t even realize were there, and it sharpens your communication skills in the process.
My advice is to be intentional. Look for people whose values and work ethic resonate with you, not just their titles. And when you network, focus on building genuine relationships not just collecting contacts. People remember how you made them feel, and authentic connections always lead to more meaningful opportunities.
