Conversations with Patrick Froman

Today we’d like to introduce you to Patrick Froman.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
What began as a shared dream between two best friends with a deep-rooted passion for design, exceptional customer service, and a commitment to building community has grown into something truly special. Together, they set out to reimagine what retail could feel like in Kansas City—something more intentional, more welcoming, and more connected. The result of that vision is Fetch: a thoughtfully curated lifestyle brand that brings together artisan-made paper goods, unique gifts, vintage treasures, and one-of-a-kind apparel under one roof.

But Fetch is more than just a shop—it’s a space built with heart. From the beginning, it was important to create an environment where everyone who walks through the doors feels not only welcomed, but truly seen and valued. It’s a place where creativity and self-expression are celebrated, where community is fostered, and where conversations and connections come naturally.

At the core of Fetch is a deep belief in equity, inclusivity, and social responsibility. We proudly and unapologetically support the Black Lives Matter movement and stand firmly against all forms of injustice and discrimination. These values are not just statements—they’re woven into every part of our business, from the people we collaborate with to the way we show up for our community.

Fetch isn’t just a place to shop—it’s a place to belong.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Like any small business, our journey has been filled with both incredible highs and unexpected challenges. The road hasn’t always been easy—but every obstacle has shaped us into who we are today. We are especially proud of the resilience we showed during some of the toughest moments, including the COVID-19 pandemic, which forced us to temporarily close our doors and rethink how we connect with our community. That chapter tested our creativity, adaptability, and determination in ways we never could have anticipated—but it also revealed just how strong our foundation truly is.

More recently, we navigated the major transition of relocating our shop to the vibrant and historic Westside Neighborhood of Kansas City. While any move comes with its fair share of stress and uncertainty, this one felt like a leap of faith—and it paid off. Our new space reflects our growth, our evolving vision, and our deeper connection to the community we love.

Every hurdle we’ve faced—whether logistical, financial, or emotional—has taught us something new and made us better prepared for what’s ahead. We view these challenges not as setbacks, but as stepping stones. They’ve made us stronger, more creative, and more committed than ever to our mission. With every season of change, we’ve emerged bigger, better, and more aligned with the purpose that started it all.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
At Fetch, we take immense pride in curating a product assortment that’s as diverse and vibrant as the community we serve. Our shelves feature a carefully selected mix of goods created by underrepresented and marginalized makers from across the country—including talented queer artists, Black creators, and other independent voices who deserve to be seen and celebrated. Uplifting these artists isn’t just a business decision—it’s a reflection of our core values and our unwavering commitment to inclusivity, equity, and representation in every part of our brand.

We are especially proud of our line of political protest posters, which serve as both bold statements and tools for change. Proceeds from these designs go directly to the ACLU, helping support critical civil rights work nationwide. These posters are more than just art—they’re an act of resistance, a call to action, and a reminder that creativity can be a powerful force for justice.

In addition to our posters, we offer store-exclusive banners, pennants, and tees that share our messages around equality, activism, and the vital importance of using our voices—especially in today’s turbulent political landscape. These pieces aren’t just merchandise; they’re declarations of what we stand for. Every design speaks to our belief that retail can—and should—be a platform for meaningful dialogue and social impact
