Exploring Life & Business with Wamda Abreesh of Two Niles Co

Today we’d like to introduce you to Wamda Abreesh.

Hi Wamda, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
When we first connected with Voyage KC in 2022, I shared how my journey was deeply rooted in my Sudanese upbringing and the old folk practices that shaped me. One meaningful tradition was when my mother buried my umbilical cord where community healers worked in Wad Madani, Sudan. In my culture, it’s believed that burying a child’s umbilical cord influences their future – my mother wanted me to be someone who helped others, and that’s exactly what she got. It was natural for me to enjoy learning at the feet of my elders, who used plants to heal a variety of conditions. It sparked my curiosity and fascination with natural remedies, and as I got older, I started learning and practicing alongside them.

As time went on, I became the go-to person for friends and family when they needed help with things like skin issues or toothaches. Between the guidance of the Maker of our souls and the elders of knowledge that he sent my way, I was able to create personalized herbal solutions for people. My upbringing and culture also taught me that food is medicine, so the “natural world” was always a big part of my life. Herbs came easy to me, formulation and getting ratios “just right” to keep up with the consistency of the products was something I had to get used to in business.

Fast forward to today, and our brand Two Niles Co is still built on those same core values. We’ve made our way into regional and national stores like Whole Foods Market, Fresh Thyme, Akin’s Natural Grocery, Nutrition Smart, and Down To Earth, but we’re also proud to be working with amazing local stores like Nature’s Own Health Market, Phoenix Herb, Mama Jeans, and so many Co-Ops across the country. Lately, we’ve been focused on giving back, teaming up with effective non-profits like the Diaspora Driven Network, Kansas City International Aid, MGDT (Muslim Girls Doing Things), all of which are all about empowering communities. As we continue to grow we want to make sure we continue to pour back into the community that helped us grow to where we currently are.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The road has been an adventurous roller-coaster lol, where every challenge is something we HAD to go through to get stronger and better. Recently, the biggest hurdle has been keeping up with the growing demand from the stores we’re working with. With tight shipping deadlines and each store having its own way of handling orders, it’s been a real learning curve. But the ongoing challenge? Staying afloat and consistent no matter what is thrown our way.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
We’ve become a household name, thanks to our herbal-infused Sea Moss and Elderberry Tonics, which are really our hero products. But we didn’t stop there. We’ve expanded into a full line of plant-based alternatives to everyone’s favorite self-care essentials. From body scrubs to herbal tonics, everything we create is non-toxic and free from preservatives, dyes, fillers, or binders. Our mission is simple: to keep nourishing, rejuvenating, and uplifting our communities with products made from the highest-quality, most intentional ingredients.

We love surprises, fun facts and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
Something surprising that most people don’t know about our brand is that everything we do is connected to a family member who exclusively works with us. From website building and maintenance to creating labels and content, it’s all done by someone close to the brand. I’m also really passionate about utilizing people from our community who helped us get to where we are today. For me, it’s a cheat code for entrepreneurs—if someone in your family or community has the skills and can do the job well, why not bring them in? It just makes sense.
