Exploring Life & Business with Shelby DuBois of DewBwah

Today we’d like to introduce you to Shelby DuBois.

Hi Shelby, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
You don’t usually find two business owners with such different skill sets building something side by side – but that’s exactly what makes Angie Martin and Shelby DewBwah such a strong team. One brings decades of operational expertise. The other brings unfiltered marketing know-how. Together, they’ve created DewBwah – a digital marketing agency focused on delivering real results for small businesses, without the extra nonsense.

Angie Martin: Numbers, Systems, and Strategy
Angie spent over 25 years behind the scenes of small businesses – managing books, optimizing operations, and helping owners make smarter decisions. With a degree in accounting from UMKC and years of hands-on leadership, she knows what it takes to keep a business running efficiently and profitably.

In 2018, she launched Essistant KC, an accounting firm serving real estate investors and service-based businesses across Kansas City. For a while, she balanced the growing firm with a demanding role as General Manager of a foundation repair company – until she finally took her firm full-time in 2024.

That’s when she crossed paths with Shelby.

Shelby DewBwah: Bold Marketing and Unfiltered Talk
Shelby built her reputation by helping small business owners grow – especially those in blue-collar industries who are great at what they do, but need help getting found online. She’s known for being direct, creative, and fiercely committed to her clients’ success.

When Shelby reached out to Angie for advice on building her agency, the two quickly realized their visions aligned. Shelby had the front-end strategy and creative fire; Angie had the back-end systems and operational structure. It didn’t take long before the idea of working together stopped being an idea – and started being a plan.

Stronger Together: DewBwah Begins
From day one, DewBwah has been about doing things differently. No cookie-cutter campaigns. No corporate nonsense. Just real strategy, clear results, and an agency that genuinely cares.

Angie runs the backend. Shelby leads the brand and client strategy. And together, they help home service businesses and local entrepreneurs show up stronger, get found faster, and grow with purpose.

They didn’t set out to build a typical agency. They built DewBwah.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Has it been a smooth road? Not even close – but every bump has built something better.

Shelby:
Before DewBwah, I was involved with another local agency that ultimately failed due to a bad partnership – and when it did, a lot of those clients came to me, desperate for help. I couldn’t turn them away so I jumped in, fixed what I could, and did my best to rebuild what had been broken. But that meant more than just salvaging campaigns – it meant rebuilding trust.

Being the face of that previous agency came with a lot of baggage. I had to prove myself all over again. Not just in skill, but in integrity. That’s why DewBwah is so deeply rooted in transparency, honesty, and results – because I’ve seen firsthand what happens when those things are missing.

Angie:
For me, balancing the growth of DewBwah while still running my own successful bookkeeping firm hasn’t been easy. I’m fiercely committed to both – and that means juggling a lot of responsibility behind the scenes. But I believe in what we’re building here. Shelby and I have wildly different strengths, but the same core values. And that makes the long hours and hard conversations worth it.

Together:
Every challenge has shaped DewBwah into what it is today: a marketing agency that doesn’t just talk a big game – we show up, we care deeply, and we deliver. And while the road hasn’t been smooth, it’s absolutely been worth it.

What was your favorite childhood memory?
Shelby: I used to sit on my papa’s lap and tell him about the companies I was going to be the boss of when I got older. I’d sit there for hours just snapping and unsnapping his pearl snap shirts while he listened to me go on and on. Occasionally, he’d let me pull out the pink hair brush and do his hair, too.

Angie: My summers on the Missouri River, riding horses to see neighbors, collecting eggs and helping to milk goats on my grandpa’s farm.
