Today we’d like to introduce you to Katherine Riggins.
Hi Katherine, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started my journey in the beauty industry as a cosmetologist in 2004. My career path was highly influenced by my mother who worked for herself as a hair dresser for 45 years. Hair has been my life since I was a little girl playing under the hood dryers, listening to Mom chat it up with the blue haired grannies, getting their hair permed and roller sets.
I started out my career as a Stylist at local hair cutting chains which allowed me to perfect my skills because of the high volume of walk in clientele chain salons provided. I was able to grow a substantial clientele base and later move into salon management career roll.
5 years ago I decided to take the leap of faith and bought my commission based hair salon in Spring Hill Ks. I have 5 stylist/friends who work for me and together we are Salon 223.
My time as a business owner has not been an easy one. I survived an 8 week mandatory statewide shut down during Covid 2020 times and then another 12 week shut down a few years later after an accident involving an SUV driving through the salon and destroying almost all of the shop. I survived the shut downs because of our loyal Client base and Gods mercy because of them the salon is better than ever.
I’m also very excited about our future. We are going to be bringing new services to Salon 223 in 2026 such as headspa scalp treatments, body waxing/shaving services and facial services.
I am also continuing my education and currently going back to trade school to achieve my KS barbering license.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
2 shut downs, covid and Accident has by far been the biggest struggle. Not to mention owning a small business now in 2025 with inflated economy has not been easy but hair being my passion and drive I have and will overcome!
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am an artist who expresses my passion through hair creations. I specialize in women and men’s precision hair cuts and styling. I love making people feel amazing about themselves when they walk out of my door. I really enjoy working with people and helping them look and feel like a million bucks! I love my job so much that it doesn’t feel like work! I love listening and talking to people all day. It gives me purpose and joy! We pride ourselves at Salon 223 by providing exceptional A+ services without breaking the bank. We pride ourselves in providing quality customer service to our clients.
We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
“Define success on your own terms, achieve it by your own rules, and build a life you’re proud to live.” ― Anne Sweeney. …
