Community Highlights: Meet Reagan Brown of Reagan Brown Events

Today we’d like to introduce you to Reagan Brown.

Hi Reagan, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I was born and raised in Mountain Home, Arkansas. I always knew that I wanted to help people, but I also had a passion for creativity and thrived in a flexible, ever changing environment. In my small town, if you wanted to work with people you got funneled into typical hospitality types of careers such as teaching or nursing while still in high school. I began college as a teaching major, but I quickly decided that teaching wasn’t the route I wanted to go. I ended up shifting my major to nursing and graduated nursing school in 2012. I had a cousin moving to Lee’s Summit at that time, and she encouraged me to move too. I took a huge leap of faith because I knew practically no one on the Kansas City area, but I felt like there was more opportunity in Kansas City to further my nursing career. Nervous and excited, I packed up my house and my beloved dog, Bentley, and left everything I had ever known behind. I quickly found a job at a primary care physician’s group and began my nursing career. In 2016, I met my husband, and in 2017 we were engaged. While we were planning our wedding, I felt this “ah ha’ moment realizing this is what I was meant to do. We got married on New Year’s Eve in 2017, and I continued my nursing career while longing for an opportunity in the wedding industry. In 2019, I decided to re-enroll in college in pursuit of a marketing degree because a five year career as a nurse wasn’t landing me much opportunity in the wedding industry at the time. Right after enrolling in college again, I received a call offering me a part time weekend position with a wedding venue group. I quickly began picking up weddings almost every single weekend, working 50-60 hours a week between the two jobs (on top of my full time school work) and loving every minute of it! I ended up quitting my full time nursing job in 2019, and continued working at the venue and furthering my education. Then, we got pregnant with our first child! While pregnant, the covid shutdown put a major hold on wedding industry functions, but I had a teammate from the venue who had launched her own planning company – literally days before the shutdown. Once the shut down ended and we had our daughter, I began working with that teammate at her planning company, and I ended up becoming one of her lead planners, leading my own events under her company. In 2021, I graduated with my marketing degree and got certified in wedding planning and wedding design so I took another leap of faith and prepared for my launch of my own wedding planning company! I had planned everything for my launch on 1/1/22 – website complete with brand new headshots, business cards ordered, Instagram ready with a few posts, but two weeks prior to the launch we found out we were expecting a second child! I was so nervous, but I figured if not now – when? I launched my company as planned, and it took off! Now, I am on my fourth season as a full time wedding planner and still loving every minute of it!

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Of course not! Having a second child in the middle of my launch year was a huge challenge! The ever changing dynamics of a young, growing family are always a challenge, but we are figuring it out day by day!

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Reagan Brown Events?
