Daily Inspiration: Meet Carter Gaskins

Today we’d like to introduce you to Carter Gaskins.

Hi Carter, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Life will hit you! In 2010, we lost a son at birth. During this time, we did not have any photos of my son. In 2014, we had a beautiful baby girl. During this time, I picked up a camera. My wife wanted me to take as many photos as possible, and I just started snapping away. I realized that not only am I missing the time I had in photos, but others are missing the same thing. This is when I started to help others capture the moment as well.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It has not been a smooth road at all. This is what I know about photography. One minute you are up and everyone is messaging you to book, and the next moment, you are humbled because no one has contacted you. I have dealt with many emotions of how to get more clients, and then at the other moment, how to schedule all these clients. It is definitely a rollercoaster, but I guess that is business as a whole.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a creative. I work with professional headshots, maternity, food, and product photography. I am known for my creativity and my quality. I am also known for being easy to work with. What sets me apart from other photographers is that I am an expert in lighting. I love to create different styles of lighting and different-looking shoots for my clients.

Any big plans?
Yes, I am looking to make big changes in the future. As you noticed in the previous questions, I specialize in many different types of photography. In the future, I will focus on products and headshots. I still want to do the other types of shoots, but I will focus on products and headshots. There’s just something about dealing with corporate individuals and business owners. I love to pick their minds and have a highly educated conversation with them when they arrive in the studio.
