Today we’d like to introduce you to Shawn Bingham.
Hi Shawn, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Wow — this journey started back in 2003 when I joined the Army and was introduced to the world of logistics. Leaving the comfort of Kansas City, I was stationed in Germany, and that experience completely transformed my life and perspective. Living overseas allowed me to see places I had only read about and immerse myself in a different culture — something that deeply shaped who I am today.
From 2004 to 2017, I spent the majority of my time living in Germany. It became more than just a duty station — it became a defining chapter in my life. But in 2017, I hit a turning point. I realized I wasn’t happy with the direction my life was heading, so I made a bold decision to move to Houston, Texas.
That move turned out to be one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. It led me to a career where I could make a real impact — teaching high school students about logistics. Every day, I get to share the knowledge and experiences I’ve gained while helping shape the future of the industry through the next generation.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I have faced my fair share of obstacles along the way, some of which have shaped who I am today in ways I never expected.
2019, my life took a significant turn when my wife and I divorced. That experience sent me into a very dark place mentally. I honestly don’t know where I would be now if it weren’t for my faith in God. During that difficult season, I got a call for an interview at my current school — Blanson CTE High School. That opportunity changed everything. Blanson saved my life in many ways, so every day at the end of class, I tell my students: “If no one else has told you they love you today, Mr. B does.” Because I genuinely mean it.
Another life-altering moment came on January 25, 2024, when I lost my mother. Her passing rocked me to my core. I was looking forward to celebrating two significant milestones with her — my 40th birthday and my graduation from Texas A&M with a Master of Industrial Distribution. It wasn’t easy in the final semester, but I pushed through the grief and walked the stage on May 11 in her honor.
These moments of pain and perseverance have not only shaped my path but also deepened my purpose. That’s why I do what I do with such passion.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
At Blanson Career and Technical Education High School, I lead the Distribution and Logistics program, where I prepare students for careers in supply chain, transportation, and warehouse operations. My approach blends classroom instruction with real-world experience.
A key feature of our program is Blamazon—a student-run teacher supply warehouse that functions like a mini logistics company. Students handle everything from inventory control to order fulfillment, gaining hands-on skills and building leadership along the way.
My goal is to ensure every student leaves the program career-ready, confident, and equipped with both technical knowledge and soft skills—whether they pursue certifications, enter the workforce, or continue their education.
Do you any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
Many memories come to mind when I think back on my childhood, but one stands out the most. At the time, we lived with my mom, but my brother and I went to school from our grandmother’s house. Since we didn’t have a car, we would ride the bus, get off at the stop near her home, and then walk down the hill to her house. She always had breakfast waiting for us—sometimes a bowl of cereal, but often her famous egg sandwiches. We spent much time at her home, whether for school mornings or family gatherings. Whenever I talk with my cousins, we laugh and reminisce about being at her house, especially the den, which was everyone’s favorite room and the heart of many memories.
