Today we’d like to introduce you to Nathan + Patience Axmann.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
We’re Nathan & Patience Axmann, a creative entrepreneur husband and wife team. We wear a lot of hats and love exploring the intersection of artistry and business. We met at a Christian film festival in San Antonio in 2017, got to know each other on Instagram and were married in 2019. We live in Wichita, KS with our three kids. Professionally, we spend our time photographing weddings, decorating and setting up Airbnbs for investors, coaching other business owners, and operating two rentable photography studios. Patience also has a newborn photography brand and is a singer/songwriter.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
We had always dreamed of being in business full time together. That dream started to be formed into a solid business plan when a few months after we were married, we found ourselves expecting our first child. We both wanted to be able to have the freedom to be home with our kids and each be a part of those early core memories with them. That was and still is the primary motivation for growing our businesses. We love being together and integrating business and family.
Some challenges that have come up are learning how to have a partnership while also not centering our whole relationship around work. We have had to learn how to have work and home life integrated while also maintaining healthy boundaries.
Nathan is task oriented and Patience is more free spirited. Those both bring valuable things to our partnership but it can sometimes be a challenge to know how to bring those two things together.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Our why for doing what we do is our kids. Our dream was to craft a life where we could both be present in the lives of our kids and be able to live life on our own terms without needing to balance parenthood and our careers.
We are most passionate about bringing joy to others. Whether that is through design, coaching, beautiful photography, or having the time freedom through our business to minister to others in diverse ways.
We are most known for our willingness to take risks, and the way we speak openly about our faith.
We are most proud of our marriage. Not what it is in business but what it is apart from our business. We will always put the health and well being of our marriage first, before any business goals.
Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
We deeply believe that to achieve the dreams that God places on your heart that you have to find people ahead of you to learn from and to find people that are a step behind to pour into. We are constantly trying to build that community of people. For us this has looked like our parents, therapists, building deep community and friendships and paying for mentorships and masterminds.
How to Film Weddings (John Burn & Nick Miller) was deeply integral to us going full time as creatives and Family Teams (Jeff Bethke & Jeremy Pryor) has helped us pursue business holistically in a way that is healthy for our marriage, parenting and spirituality.
