Today we’d like to introduce you to Shannon Aubrey.
Hi Shannon, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Brow Love began because, as a new mom, I was looking for something I could do while still being able to be present for my little boy. I was also craving something that would connect me to other women (any new mom knows this feeling of wanting to talk to adults)! I knew whatever it was, I wanted women to feel seen.
Fast-forward to me getting my own brows Microbladed (an enthusiastic participant of the early 2000s over-plucked brows trend) and asked so many questions of the artist! She shared with me the training she attended, and I very much respected her work, so after a lot of research, I enrolled in the training. After which, I graduated from the prestigious Beauty Angels Academy, where I completed a 6-month, 20-level “quality of work”- based program with 1:1 mentorship with Grand Master Amanda Breuer in Microblading & Shading in 2019.
In the summer of 2023, I completed my apprenticeship for my tattoo license, which required 300 hours and 50 procedures for licensure. I have since taken many additional trainings, the most recent being Machine Hairstrokes (Nano Brows) with Beauttega Academy with Caitlin Leinenkugel (2024).
I know that is a lot about my education, but if I have learned anything about what makes a good artist it’s quality training, experience, and TIME.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I will be honest – I’ve made mistakes. Earlier in my career I did work that I am not entirely proud to call mine. This is why experience and time as I mentioned before is paramount in choosing your artist.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
As a cosmetic tattoo artist, I specialize in creating semi-permanent, natural-looking hairstroke brows. I think if you were to read through my Google reviews, something that keeps coming up (in addition to the work itself) is the rapport I build with my clients; I want women to feel seen and cared for. I am also incredibly passionate about good work done well, and I am grateful that I continue to build a business that reflects my original mission and my company namesake: Brow + Love.
What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
A few things: I am a recovering perfectionist, but I guess that’s not such a bad quality for someone who is about to tattoo your face. I am a completist, so I love that in my work I get to see the process through from start to finish. I do have an artistic side, which is why I love creating natural, hair-like brows. Finding a common-ground with each and every one of my clients has made my business thrive, as they not only like my work, but me by extension, so they continue to send friends, family and coworkers my way.
