Today we’d like to introduce you to Jacque Smith.
Hi Jacque, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I started by studying nutrition and kinesiology undergrad at K-State. I played volleyball at K-State from 2017-2021.
I then graduate and had my first job as a sports performance coach/nutritionist.
Nutrition was always more of my passion so I studied to further my education through other credentials during my time working at my first job. I then went to become a PRN Strength Coach through the University of Kansas Health System, and continued to want to do a more nutrition specific job, and part time train.
Now, I am currently at a private studio in Overland Park KS called Evexia Health & Performance where I am the Head Nutritionist and Nutrition Program Manager for all their clients.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
There were some struggles in between jobs. I went through an “identity crisis” post graduating college and trying to understand why exercise and proper nutrition is important for me outside of being an athlete.
I also, had to overcome adversity through different jobs & passion shifts. I thought I wanted to be a physical therapist, athletic trainer, or a strength coach.
However, I always knew I wanted to help people feel good, I continued to realize I was more interested in how to teach people to fuel their body properly to feel good in whatever they want to do in life.
Whether a high school or college athlete, or someone wanting to lose 20 pounds, I knew that nutrition was my passion & training was a compliment to what I truly wanted to do. It took about 2 years to find the place I work at now, and it has been a great fit with what I want to do long term
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I specialize in help all active individuals learn how to fuel their body for performance, whether that is an athlete, a busy professional, a stay at home mom, etc, I strive to coach and teach individuals habits/routines that are individualized to them for their overall health & wellbeing.
I work with clients 1on1 in nutrition, online or in person, to help them strategize different ways to feel better & live the life they want. I also train small groups of 4 people for more a personalized approach to training as well as 1on1 clients too, and some large group training. These all are specific to resistance training and heart rate conditioning.
I would say I am known for educating people through nutrition & training, and giving them tools that will help them feel good in their own bodies & to be able to do whatever they set their mind to.
I am most proud of the people I have worked with in the past 4 years & now. Everyone has their own story & journey, and if I could help just a small percent of their journey, whether it is helping them crush their goals, or start them on the right path, I am proud and grateful to be able to be a source of guidance and support for them.
I am very personable, and love to make people laugh and smile, I feel as though I have great knowledge on nutrition & am able to teach and communicate in a way that allows nutrition to not feel so daunting to any individual. I am able to individualize my coaching to the person and allow them to be seen In whatever they are going through in their life.
What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
The most important quality is to be personable & listen to people.
Everyone has a story & has something they want to work towards. Being able to understand where a person is coming from, what they want out of their life, what they are working towards & why, gives you a way better chance in helping them toward their goals & be successful in their life.
Another quality would be is to be adaptable. Listen what the person is saying and be able to adapt to what they may need at that time of your check-in, session, etc. Everyone is going to go through different stages of life, & it is important to be able to be adaptable if you have a plan for someone & still be able to help them make strides to success.
