Meet Gen Amaro of KANSAS CITY

Today we’d like to introduce you to Gen Amaro.

Hi Gen, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I moved to the Midwest from the Dominican Republic and learned English by watching Glee—I was really focused on getting my pronunciation right so I could sound more native. That experience shaped a lot of how I approach things: I dive in headfirst and find ways to make things work.

I started posting on TikTok as a fun way to document my life, but over time, I realized I loved sharing parts of my journey—whether it’s teaching, cozy hobbies, or little everyday routines. At first, it was just casual, but then I saw that my best-performing videos were the ones where I was just talking and being myself. That made me lean into my personality more, and I started being intentional about what I shared: my experiences as a student teacher, my lifestyle, and the things that make life feel a little more put together.

Now, I focus on a mix of teaching, cozy aesthetics, and healthy habits, and I also promote products through TikTok Shop as an affiliate. I try to post 2-3 times daily, and I love creating content that connects with people—whether it’s other teachers, students, or just people who enjoy a cozy, intentional lifestyle. My goal is to keep growing my audience and turning content creation into something even bigger.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road, but I think that’s what makes the journey worth it. One of the biggest challenges has been balancing everything—being a full-time student, student teaching, working, and now grad school on top of it all. There have been times when I’ve felt completely overwhelmed, especially trying to stay consistent with content creation while managing real-life responsibilities.

Another struggle has been self-doubt. When you put yourself out there online, there’s always that fear of not being good enough or wondering if people even care about what you have to say. But I’ve learned that the more I show up as my authentic self, the more I attract people who genuinely connect with me.

Financial struggles have also been a part of the journey. Between student loans, bills, and trying to build stability, it’s been tough at times. But that’s actually one of the reasons I started taking content creation more seriously—it became a way to express myself while also creating opportunities for growth.

Through it all, I’ve learned that consistency and resilience are everything. There will always be obstacles, but as long as I keep showing up and staying true to myself, I know I’ll keep growing.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’d love to share more about my journey as a content creator! My work revolves around storytelling and authenticity—I create content that blends my life as a student teacher, grad student, and everyday person navigating adulthood. I specialize in lifestyle content with a cozy, intentional feel, focusing on teaching, routines, wellness, and little moments that make life feel more put together.

What I’m most proud of is how I’ve built a space where people can relate and feel inspired. Whether it’s other teachers who see their experiences reflected in my videos or people who just enjoy the cozy, aesthetic side of my content, I love knowing that my content resonates.

What sets me apart is my ability to balance multiple worlds—being a bilingual teacher, a grad student, and a content creator—all while staying true to myself. I’m not just showing the highlight reel; I share the real struggles, the wins, and everything in between. My goal is to continue growing my platform and using it to inspire, connect, and create content that feels both real and uplifting.

We love surprises, fun facts and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
Something surprising that most people might not know about me is that I learned English by watching Glee! When I moved to the Midwest from the Dominican Republic, I was determined to sound as fluent as possible, so I studied how the characters spoke and mimicked their pronunciation. That experience made me really passionate about language and communication, which is probably why I love storytelling so much—both as a teacher and a content creator.

Another thing people might not realize is that, despite how put-together my content might seem, I’m constantly figuring things out as I go. I share cozy, intentional routines, but in reality, I have my fair share of chaotic, unplanned moments. I think that’s what makes my content relatable—I’m just sharing my journey in real time, and I love that people connect with that!
