Today we’d like to introduce you to Shelby Vasko
Hi Shelby, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I purchased the property back in 2018 and we started the rezoning process with the city. Permits and licenses got approved in 2019 and that is when we started the building process. There was a small cottage built in the early 1900’s that was original to the property, and we built everything else. The venue was completed in May 2020 and our first wedding was in June 2020. It wasn’t ideal to open up a brand new business during CVOID but it has since worked out. Since then I have hosted over 300 events.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The first two years were insanely busy. The wedding industry as a whole was playing catch up from the 2020 COVID wedding cancellations. Business was good but it was exhausting, by the time we hit 2023 business has settled down and we could figure out what a normal year was. I have struggles as a business owner like anyone else but I have amazing clients and I love working with the Kansas City wedding industry.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Vasko Events LLC ?
I am the owner of Vasko Events LLC DBA The Farmhouse KC Venue. My venue is the perfectly mixture of elegance and rustic. We are located inside city limits making it easy to get to but we still have a secluded private feel, perfect for your event. Our venue has an open vendor policy allowing you to hire the Catering company, DJ, florist, etc that you want. We do carry our liquor license allowing you to take the stress out of having to decide on things for the bar. We have easy packages for you to choose from and will supply all bar essentials. We have a private parking lot, allow guests to park with ease. I am so proud of the business that I have built, it has not been easy but it is worth it. Working weekends and 18 hour days can get exhausting but its so amazing to see how happy out clients are after their event day and it makes it all worth it.
In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
I feel like I am still new to this industry so I am curious as to where it will go in the future, will there still be a high demand for venues? I want to hope so, our dates typically get reserved 12-18months in advance and we have not seen that shift or change. I hope we can continue to work with amazing clients to be a small part of their big day.
