Community Highlights: Meet Dylan Ashlock of OnPoint BMX

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dylan Ashlock

Dylan, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I started a YouTube channel when I first started riding BMX with my school friends (2012) We were always about just making edits with songs we liked, just like how the pros in the BMX industry do. Through the years, my friends have gotten injured, taken on other hobbies, or just fell out of riding bikes completely but i always stayed true to doing the thing I love. I met Greyson Roberts in Springfield, MO, who was doing his own thing on YouTube with BMX and vlogging and helped bring me to a bigger audience. And then from that, my current friends Bobby Haulotte and Jamie Barnhart (From Kansas City) got more involved with what i was trying to stay on course doing -make videos and just ride bikes- and we all organically formed OPBMX into a crew-based clothing brand with our own website. Without their inclusion this would not be where it is today; about to release our 2nd DVD and premiere it, sell clothing in bike shops around the country, and become the face of Kansas City BMX in general.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The road has been smooth so far. Like i said we all have such good chemistry of being great friends already that we can always bounce ideas off each other and kind of take the same approach of what our ‘next project’ will be. Each of us have a good role into this thing we all care deeply about and we all have the same goal at the end of the day; make cool stuff, get people stoked to ride BMX, and feel included in something that a lot of people in the BMX world dont always get to be apart of -Having a solid crew of very talented and unique bike riders that make content and do the most with this sport.

As you know, we’re big fans of OnPoint BMX. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
We are just a crew of great friends based out of Kansas City trying to do the most with the sport. We want as many people to get involved with us so we travel to neighboring cities meeting new friends, introducing them to who we are (OPBMX) and what we like to do (Film videos/DVD’s) We host skatepark Jams and meet ups to bring our small community together more. What sets us apart from others is you can visibly see the passion we all put into this. We dont do this to try and make money, we do this because we love BMX as a whole and want to do cool stuff with like-minded individuals. Through sticking to what we’ve been doing through the years and staying true to ourselves, our boys are now getting industry sponsors, traveling more, and getting our brand more recognition with the BMX Industry as a whole. We’re about to release our 2nd DVD within the past 5 years (which is a goal of every action sports athlete wants to be apart of) and premiere it at Blip Roasters located in the West Bottoms of Kansas City. We want to put Kansas City on the map in the BMX world and show everyone just because we arent in one of the few main hubs of the industry doesnt mean you cant get a group of friends together and make something cool.

If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
Growing up ive always wanted to make creative content of some sort. And watching professional BMX videos as a kid and finding role-models in the sport sparked the interest in me of wanting to do just that. I made BMX my life at such an early age that everyone who knew or heard my name would always associate “BMX Bike Rider” to me. I wanted all my friends to be involved with this from the very beginning.
