Today we’d like to introduce you to Kim Flanner
Hi Kim, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I got started in Real Estate a little over six years ago. After dropping out of law school, I had to figure my life out and what I was going to do. I have always been hardworking and have always worked more than was necessary, so it didn’t really scare me to get into ‘the real world’ after dropping out of law school. On top of that, I decided to leave AZ where I was at, and I moved to Kansas City almost eight years ago. I worked as a recruiter, I was bartending at two locations and I was auditing files for a Real Estate Agent. I was working like 60-80 hours a week, but in a weird way- I actually enjoyed it. What kept catching my attention was Real Estate. The agent I was working for at the time kept telling me that I should quit my job and become a Real Estate Agent. Realtors are commission only and I didn’t really know what I was doing, so this scared me a bit. This agent hired me full-time to audit files for the team and said that I could learn and sell Real Estate for the team also. Within just a few months, I already had multiple transactions pending and learned very quickly that this was something I could do and loved doing. I outgrew that team and decided to go out on my own. I still was very unsure of what ‘the big picture’ looked like. I was approached by Rob Ellerman several times and him asking me to join The Rob Ellerman Team. At the time, I didn’t really want to join another team. My husband’s good friend mentioned to me lightly (who was on The Rob Ellerman Team at the time), ‘we should start a team together.’ Not thinking much about it at the time, I just said, ‘we should!’ Well, this individual took it seriously and had The Rob Ellerman Team marketing team create logos and business name ideas. We were deciding between about five names, but the final two were ‘WayPoint’ and ‘Atlas Home Group.’ Once I saw the logo of Atlas Home Group, the vision already came to life… and the rest is history. I now run a team of 14 agents, own several rental properties, run my own real estate business and we are continuing to grow! It’s been quite the journey and I am loving every minute of it!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Nothing worth having ever comes easy! I have learned that when you ‘grow up’ and you’re an adult- life is realizing that no one really has it all figured out and it’s just about how well you can problem solve in life. Once you realize that nothing is perfect and expect things to come up- it makes it a lot less stressful. It always ends up working out the way it was intended to.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Atlas Home Group?
Atlas Home Group is one of the biggest teams in Kansas City. Our team should sell around $40,000,000 in Real Estate this year. In addition to that, we are powered by The Rob Ellerman Team, which sells about $1,000,000,000 (yes, one billion) in Real Estate every year. The Rob Ellerman Team is top 10 teams in the nation. When you surround yourself with the best, you just become one of the best. Because we take up such a big market share in the Real Estate world, it’s really hard to beat our marketing (our team has the funds and resources to out-do just about anyone), our level of service, our resources and truly our core values as a team…. I couldn’t be more thankful and proud to be surrounded by our team.
Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
My husband and our twin boys… They see me working evenings and weekends, and yet they’re always so supportive. I love our sweet little family. My parents and my family have always believed in me and pushed me to be the best version of myself. I have the greatest friends a girl could dream of, and I know my life wouldn’t be complete without each of them. There are so many people in this business that I have to thank because it takes a village of people to create this type of service and momentum. To each of my team members on Atlas Home Group- you are all incredible and inspire me to be better every day. Thank you for the opportunity to lead and mentor you. The Rob Ellerman Team for having the best support in the industry. Rob Ellerman for believing in me from day one and always keeping it real with me. My title company, Kit, with Alliance (she’s the best), my transaction coordinators, The Serrioz Team, and any leader and mentor that I have had along the way. Last, but definitely not least, every single person that has referred me or trusted me in Real Estate. That can go from a home sale or to even picking up the phone and asking for advice or a referral for a contractor. Your trust in me means everything to me. THANK YOU.
