Life & Work with Casey (Artist and Social Media: Cr Reid) Toews of Lenexa

Today we’d like to introduce you to Casey (artist And Social Media: Cr Reid) Toews

Hi Casey (artist and social media: CR Reid), we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I earned my master’s degree in psychology in 2021, and I currently manage my private practice where I work primarily with individuals facing stress, anxiety, ADHD, depression, and trauma. In addition to offering psychological testing and therapy, I also conduct research on traumatic brain injuries in collaboration with the University of Kansas. Beyond my clinical work, I’m a co-owner of the media production company Number9ine, where I help manage artists who have released several projects in recent years—it’s truly exciting to witness the creative process and see how the public responds. Most of my spare time is spent with my two dogs, a siberian husky and a german shepherd/siberian husky mix.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The road hasn’t been smooth. Balancing my private practice, traumatic brain injury research with the University of Kansas, and co-owning Number9ine has required constant adjustment. A major challenge arose with our recent project, *METRO9*, a remake of *Metropolis*. A company involved in the original film’s restoration tried to block us, but after issuing a cease and desist letter, the agency ruled in our favor, citing the public domain, fair use, and the Digital Millennium Act. While difficult, this experience reinforced our commitment to our work and the lessons learned from overcoming adversity. for 18 seconds
My journey hasn’t been smooth. Balancing my private practice—where I help individuals manage stress, anxiety, ADHD, depression, and trauma—with traumatic brain injury research at the University of Kansas and co-owning Number9ine has demanded constant adaptation. A notable challenge was our film project METRO9, a modern reinterpretation of the silent classic Metropolis. When a restoration company attempted to block our production, our cease and desist letter led the litigating agency to rule in our favor, citing public domain, fair use, and the Digital Millennium Act. This controversy, though trying, ultimately reinforced our commitment and confidence in our work and bringing these projects to the public.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
At Number9ine, we’re all about pushing creative boundaries in both film and music. We specialize in experimental, avant-garde projects that blend modern technology with classic narratives, redefining storytelling for a new era. A prime example is our latest project, *METRO9*—a daring reimagining of the silent classic *Metropolis* that resurrects Thea von Harbou’s original vision.

Drawing on historical elements like the serialized excerpts from the 1924 Berliner Illustrirte Zeitung, *METRO9* reassembles the film’s essence through a fusion of cutting-edge effects, immersive colorization, and operatic overtures. Our approach revitalizes the towering cityscape of Metropolis, where the stark contrast between the elite and the oppressed sets the stage for a revolutionary narrative—one that questions technological ambition and societal control.

What truly sets us apart is our fearless commitment to melding genres. In our music, we fuse elements of electronica, industrial, darkwave, and opera, creating soundscapes that perfectly echo the film’s dystopian themes. At Number9ine, we’re not just telling stories—we’re crafting immersive experiences that bridge past and future, preserving the revolutionary spirit of classic cinema while propelling it into contemporary vibrancy. This commitment to bold innovation is what I’m most proud of and what continues to define our work.

Who else deserves credit in your story?
Also deserving credit is number9ine’s co-owner and co-founder 9 Patrick di Santo who is an independent multi-media artist, author, and researcher who has been instrumental in number9ine’s creative vision.
