Our Journey to Creating Aesthetic Luxury Spa: A Legacy of Faith, Family, and Empowerment

The dream of entrepreneurship has always been a part of both mine and my mother Shaunie’s hearts. From the start, we knew we wanted to create something meaningful—something that could uplift others and make a lasting impact on our community. Together, we set out to build a business that would not only serve the needs of those around us but also reflect our shared values of faith, family, and empowerment.

After much thought and research, we realized that the wellness and beauty industries were missing something—an all-inclusive, luxurious self-care experience that catered to all the needs of our clients. That’s when the idea for Aesthetic Luxury Spa was born. As a mother-daughter team, we knew this venture had to be special, and we made it our mission to create a space where people could truly feel at ease, while also embracing the luxury and attention they deserve.

My mother, who is now the office manager of the spa, was instrumental in shaping the vision for our business. She took the lead in exploring what our city was missing and quickly realized there was a need for a one-stop shop for self-care. We wanted to create a space where our clients didn’t have to drive around to multiple locations to meet their beauty and wellness needs. Instead, we would bring everything they needed under one roof, offering a wide variety of high-quality services in a comfortable, luxurious setting.

Aesthetic Luxury Spa offers a full range of services, including massages, facials, body sculpting, teeth whitening, lashes, Botox, manicure and pedicure and more. Together, we made sure to incorporate everything that we believed would make our clients feel pampered, rejuvenated, and confident. Our goal was to craft a space where anyone who walked in could leave feeling their absolute best, both inside and out.

Our Impact: Breaking Barriers and Serving the Community

One of our proudest milestones was becoming the first Black entrepreneurs to open a location inside the La Quinta Hotel. This moment wasn’t just about business success; it was a breakthrough for our family, and a powerful reminder that our dreams and hard work could pave the way for others to follow. We’ve worked hard to build something that honors our vision and celebrates our culture, and that achievement felt like a true testament to our dedication.

Our Locations: Lee’s Summit & Downtown KC

The success and demand for our services led us to expand, and today we proudly operate two locations—Lee’s Summit and Downtown Kansas City. With these new spaces, we continue to offer our clients a luxury experience that’s designed to cater to their every self-care need, while also staying true to the vision my mother and I set out to build from the very beginning.

Aesthetic Luxury Spa is not just a business to us; it’s a legacy of family, faith, and empowerment. Every step of this journey has been a shared experience, and we are incredibly grateful to be able to serve our community while living out our entrepreneurial dreams together.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Starting and growing Aesthetic Luxury Spa has definitely not been a smooth road, and we’ve faced our fair share of challenges along the way. One of the biggest struggles we encountered was during the build-out phase of our spa. We had a clear vision for the space, but bringing that vision to life wasn’t easy. Without the ability to secure funding, we had to pay for everything out of pocket, which meant stretching our personal finances and making every dollar count.

The build-out process required a lot of hard work, long hours, and a deep sense of perseverance. From dealing with contractors and making sure the space was up to our standards, to purchasing equipment and setting up everything from scratch—it was a lot of responsibility, especially without the financial cushion we had hoped for. There were moments when it felt overwhelming, but we kept pushing forward because we believed in what we were building.

Not being able to get funding was particularly challenging. It’s common for entrepreneurs to face roadblocks in securing financial backing, especially when you’re just starting out. We had to rely on our savings, find creative ways to cut costs, and make sacrifices in order to keep moving forward. It took a lot of personal dedication and sacrifice, but every obstacle only made us more determined to succeed.

While the journey has been tough at times, it’s also been incredibly rewarding. The struggles we faced—whether financial, logistical, or emotional—taught us resilience and the importance of staying focused on our goals. Every challenge we overcame strengthened our bond as a mother-daughter team and pushed us closer to achieving our dream of opening Aesthetic Luxury Spa.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
As the CEO of Aesthetic Luxury Spa, I wear many hats. While I have a fantastic team of employees who help bring our vision to life, I’m still very much involved in every aspect of the business. I believe that true leadership means rolling up your sleeves and staying connected to the heart of your company. Whether it’s handling marketing, creating content, or sitting in on high-level meetings with potential partners or investors, I’m fully committed to ensuring that the spa remains on track and true to the vision my mother and I started with.

I specialize in creating an exceptional customer experience. From the moment someone walks through our doors, we want them to feel like they’re entering a sanctuary of luxury and care. I’ve always believed in the power of personal connection, which is why I’m deeply involved in shaping the brand’s voice, messaging, and overall direction. I’m hands-on with the content we create to ensure that it resonates with our community and reflects the values we hold dear: empowerment, family, and self-care.

What we’re most proud of is not just the services we offer, but the community we’ve built. We’re known for providing a one-of-a-kind experience—where clients can access top-tier beauty and wellness services in a space that feels like home. We offer a comprehensive range of services under one roof, making it convenient for people to come in and get everything they need in a luxurious, comfortable setting. We’re also known for breaking barriers, such as becoming the first Black entrepreneurs to open a location inside the prestigious La Quinta Hotel.

What truly sets us apart is our approach to business: we’re a family-run, community-focused company that takes pride in delivering not just beauty services, but experiences that help our clients feel their best inside and out. My hands-on approach means that I’m constantly refining our processes, engaging with our clients, and ensuring that we stay innovative and relevant. Our dedication to quality, attention to detail, and personal touch is what distinguishes us in a crowded industry.

Any big plans?

Looking to the future, my plans for Aesthetic Luxury Spa involve continued growth and expansion. We’ve already made great strides with our two locations in Lee’s Summit and Downtown Kansas City, but I’m eager to take the next steps in growing the brand and reaching even more people. One of my goals is to expand our services even further, potentially adding new treatments and offerings that cater to the evolving needs of our clients.

Additionally, I’m focused on building stronger relationships within the community. We’re constantly looking for ways to give back and create meaningful partnerships that align with our values of empowerment, luxury, and self-care. I see a future where we’re not just a spa, but a hub for wellness and community—a place where people can gather, recharge, and be uplifted in every way.

Another exciting future plan is to expand our brand presence. Whether through opening more locations or creating new ways to serve our clients, I’m always thinking about how we can reach new markets and bring our unique experience to more people. We’re also planning to invest more in technology, particularly for online bookings and enhancing our digital presence to make it even easier for our clients to connect with us.

I’m also looking forward to continuing to build a strong, dedicated team. As we grow, I want to create more opportunities for others to join our family and grow with us. This isn’t just about the business—it’s about creating a legacy that will last for generations to come.

While there may be challenges ahead, I’m excited for what’s to come. The future is filled with possibilities, and I’m ready to take Aesthetic Luxury Spa to new heights!
