Hi Ericka, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
It all began in 2020. As a stay-at-home mom, I was looking for something creative to do in my spare time, so I picked up a camera and started experimenting with photography as a hobby. I took an online course to learn how to work a camera. It quickly became something I was passionate about, but I wanted to learn more and take it further. One day, I decided to reach out to a local photographer whose work I admired and asked if I could shadow her at a wedding. To my surprise, she said yes, and that day completely changed everything. I was hooked on the energy, the emotion, and the art of capturing one of the most important moments in people’s lives. From that point on, I knew I wanted to pursue photography professionally and haven’t looked back since.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It hasn’t been an easy journey. I’ve always struggled with staying active on social media, but I’m definitely working on improving that. Being in the wedding industry, it’s easy to feel like an intimidated at times, but I’ve been lucky to meet so many supportive people. My goal has always been to book 12-15 weddings a year, but the biggest challenge has been marketing. For 2025, I’ve set my sights on really getting a handle on it and stepping up my game.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am an editorial and fine-art wedding photographer based in Kansas City, with a flair for capturing love stories across various destinations. My work is deeply inspired by my love for art museums, flower gardens, and architectural marvels, which infuse my photography with a unique blend of elegance and creativity. I thrive on building meaningful connections with the people I meet, and I’m dedicated to creating timeless, personalized images that reflect the beauty and emotion of each moment.

Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
One thing that might surprise people who know me or my work is just how much of a plant enthusiast I am. It’s not something I always share, but I have a greenhouse at home, and it’s my little oasis. I’m totally obsessed with being surrounded by lush greenery and nurturing my plants. There’s something so peaceful and grounding about it, and it brings a whole new sense of joy and creativity to my life that I never expected. It’s a bit of a hidden passion, but it definitely adds balance to the hustle of my day-to-day.
