Hi Asia, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Hello Everyone, my name is Asia Williams. I am the proud owner of Opulence Salon Suite located inside Haven Salon Suites in Leawood, Ks. I fell in love with the hair industry at a young age. My mother is a hairstylist and was a cosmetology instructor at one point of life. Watching and learning from her as she taught in her classroom made me realize how much I wanted to be a part of that world! 2014 came around and it was time for me to graduate high school and plan my future. So I chose to enjoy my last summer as a “kid” and then head off to Z Hair Academy in Overland Park in August and become a cosmetologist. During hair school I had my son so of course that delayed my school some but only until October the following year! When i first completed cosmetology school I really struggled with taking my boards. It wasnt the hands on practical that i struggled with it was the two-hour computer test that got me. With the help of no other than my mother we went to Topeka the night before the big test stayed up super late in a hotel room studying until we fell asleep. I woke up terrified but ready to pass this test and i did! I really struggled on finding the right salon home but I came across Stem Hair and Body Salon. I found my home of 7 years. i made some AMAZING long term friends and I learned so much from Angela and Suzanne I cant say I would be where i am not without the love and support that i have had from them both business and personal! But I worked my way up to a level 6 and I was hungry for more. Thats where the next chapter brings you to Opulence. Opulence to me is such a strong and sexy word and that is what i want you to feel siting in my salon suite. I want you to feel like all eyes are on you because baby you are luxury and you deserve to be treated that way. Opulence is a safe place for women to relax and leave all of your worries at the door. I love working with women, were all so unique in our own way sometimes it just takes the help of someone else truly just taking the time to make you feel important. Im a girls girl alwas have been. I just wanted to create an environment that makes you excited to come in and just be yourself but when you leave I want you to feel like the QUEEN you are!

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Was it easy? Absolutely not. For starters making this decision was one of the hardest jumps I’ve ever made in my life. It was very hard to leave that place that I called home for 7 years, but I wanted more in life and I wanted to create something special for my family. In the processes of opening my own salon suite it was like for every one thing that went right two things went wrong but i had to constantly tell myself Asia you are a business owner now the bumps in the road are what is going to make this journey worth it! I’m always up for a challenge.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Being a hairstylist is so special to me there’s really not a lot of careers out there that allow you to truly be in someone’s personal space. I get to learn all about peoples lives, what the do and don’t like and I really get to show them how beautiful they are! I chose to specialize in lived in color and balayage. I love the creativity of the craft because every head is so different I love being about to specialize each color to best fits each client and their lifestyle! What sets me apart from others is my attention to detail and my passion for this industry. No experience is the same!

Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
I feel that it very hard to say where the hair industry will be in the next 5-10 years because you never know what is coming back around 2023-2024 brought back shags and mullet only God knows what crazy trends will be making their way back around, but k-tip extensions are making their way back in now and I am loving every minute of it! K-tip extensions also known as keratin tips they blend seamlessly in the hair and something so small can really make a big change.
