Today we’d like to introduce you to Sydney Evans
Hi Sydney, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
My name is Sydney Evans. I have always had a passion for photography. I understand from the bottom of my heart that life is a gift. Each new stage becomes a part of your story. Like most people, my own journey has had its highs and lows. One of the most wonderful times of my life was when my husband and I welcomed the little blessing our hearts had yearned for after years of loss and disappointment. We had our first baby boy! Even during all of the struggles we never gave up and when our moment finally came, I wanted to capture the beauty of our dreams being fulfilled. Now we have brought another blessing into this world, another son, and I get to capture even more memories with two babies! What started as a hobby with capturing my two kiddos, is now a full blown successful business. Not only do I get to capture my children, I get to capture other families, Wedding days and even motherhood sessions- for example, maternity, newborn and milestones! I am so blessed to be where I am today and I give all the Glory to God for this opportunity!
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
This has not always been a smooth road. I had to learn from the start what it was like to run a business, all while being a wife and a brand new mom. The photo industry can be tough. It can be tough because there are so many talented photographers in this industry and you are trying to build a clientele for yourself, but everyone has been so helpful and supportive!! Community over competition is really what it is like in Kansas City! I took several mentorships with talented photographers that I look up to. When I was first interested in photography, I learned so much from my aunt. She is also a photographer in Alabama and she allowed me to always help her on shoots. I learned some basics from her and then moved into more mentorships in Missouri after we had our first son. The industry is hard but SO WORTH IT! I have learned so much from my mentors. Shout out to Madie Plymell who was my first mentor and now my current mentor, Hallie Fry.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
A lot of people ask why I started photography, and for me, it all begins with my faith in Jesus Christ. I believe that life’s most precious moments like a Wedding, the laughter of family, or the joy of new life are gifts from God. As a photographer, my mission is to capture and preserve these moments of joy, grace, and love, so they can be remembered for years to come. When I first picked up my camera, it was because I wanted to see the world through a different lens. The lens of gratitude, love and faith. I believe that every family and every couple has a unique story written by God, and it’s my privilege to help tell that story through my photos. As Scripture says in Psalm 127:3, “Children are a heritage from the Lord, offspring a reward from Him.” In every family, in every couple, I see the beauty of God’s creation, and I strive to capture that beauty authentically and lovingly. My goal is to serve as a witness to the sacred moments that define our lives. Whether it’s the vows exchanged on your Wedding day, or the quiet moments between family members, I seek to preserve the love that reflects God’s love for us. 1 Corinthians 13:4-7 reminds us that love is patient, love is kind, and it always protects and rejoices with the truth. In my photography, I aim to capture those truths.
Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
I’d say adaptability is one of the most crucial qualities for a photographer. The ability to adjust to different environments, lighting conditions, and subjects on the fly can make a huge difference in getting that perfect shot. Whether it’s learning new techniques, experimenting with new equipment, or simply responding to unexpected situations (like changes in weather or lighting), being flexible and open-minded keeps you creative and ready for anything.
