Today we’d like to introduce you to Mariam Saifan
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My journey into photography wasn’t exactly planned—it was a love story that unfolded over time. I started my career as an architectural engineer, designing and perfecting lighting layouts. But I craved something more creative, colorful, and full of life.
What started as a hobby quickly turned into an obsession. I was drawn to capturing joy. Weddings, especially South Asian and multicultural celebrations, became my passion. I fell in love with the intricate details, the whirlwind of emotions, and the beautiful chaos of a wedding day. My background in engineering gave me a unique edge—I see light, composition, and symmetry in ways others might miss, and I use that to create images that are both artistic and timeless.
Fast forward 15 years, and I’ve built a six-figure photography business, photographing dream weddings filled with color, love, and culture. But more than that, I’ve created a brand that makes my clients feel comfortable, joyful, and seen. Now, I also teach other photographers how to elevate their portfolios and book high-end weddings with confidence.
For couples, my goal is to not only capture your day beautifully but to make you feel at ease, so your love shines effortlessly in every photo. For photographers, I teach you how to create a portfolio that attracts luxury clients and turns your passion into a thriving business.
Whether you’re looking for your dream wedding photographer or want to transform your photography career, I’d love to be part of your journey!
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
One of the biggest challenges was breaking into high-end weddings. It’s not just about taking good photos—it’s about building a brand that stands out. I had to learn how to showcase my work in a way that attracted the right clients, how to price for profit, and how to create an experience that couples rave about.
Another struggle was balancing work and life. As a mom, business owner, and creative, finding time for everything felt impossible at times. But through trial and error, I learned how to create a business that works for me—one that’s profitable, fulfilling, and gives me the flexibility to be present with my family.
These challenges shaped the way I run my business today. They also fuel my passion for helping other photographers avoid the same mistakes and fast-track their way to success.
So no, the road wasn’t smooth—but every challenge made me stronger, and I wouldn’t change a thing.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a luxury wedding photographer specializing in colorful, joyful, and timeless wedding photography. My work is all about capturing vibrant emotions, stunning details, and the natural beauty of each couple in a way that feels effortless and elegant.
What sets me apart? I don’t just take photos—I create an experience. My clients often tell me that I make them feel incredibly comfortable and natural in front of the camera. I guide them with subtle posing, real interactions, and a calm presence so that their joy shines through authentically.
My background as an architectural engineer also gives me a unique artistic eye. I understand how to use light, composition, and color to craft images that feel both editorial and emotional—almost like a perfect mix of magazine-worthy shots and heartfelt candid moments.
One of the things I’m most proud of is building a six-figure business doing what I love while also helping other photographers elevate their portfolios and attract high-end clients. So many photographers struggle with inconsistency in their work, and I love teaching them how to create gorgeous, light-filled images that truly stand out.
At the end of the day, whether I’m photographing a wedding or mentoring a photographer, my goal is always the same: to capture beauty, create joy, and help others thrive.
Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
I believe that taking risks is essential for growth—both in business and in life. If you play it too safe, you stay stuck. Some of the biggest, scariest decisions I’ve made have led to the most incredible opportunities.
One of the biggest risks I took was leaving my engineering career to pursue photography full-time. I had a stable job, a clear career path, and everything I had worked for academically. But deep down, I knew I wanted more—I wanted a career that gave me freedom, creativity, and joy. Walking away from that stability was terrifying, but I trusted myself and took the leap. Looking back now, that risk was the best decision I ever made.
Another risk? Positioning myself in the luxury wedding market. It’s easy to undercharge, blend in, and take whatever work comes your way. But I knew I wanted to work with couples who truly valued photography and were willing to invest in it. I had to elevate my portfolio, refine my brand, and step into a space that felt out of reach at first. It was uncomfortable, but it paid off—I now book high-end weddings and get to work with dream clients who trust my vision completely.
For photographers, I always say: if you want big results, you have to take bold steps. Investing in your business, charging what you’re worth, and creating a portfolio that attracts the right clients all require risk. But if you don’t take that leap, you stay exactly where you are.
So, is risk scary? Absolutely. But is it worth it? Every single time.
