Rising Stars: Meet Cortney Fangman of Crossroads & Lawrence KS

Today we’d like to introduce you to Cortney Fangman

Hi Cortney , so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Hi we’re Caleb & Cortney Fangman.

We own Daisy Lee Vintage a curated vintage clothing brand.

At the moment our brand specializes in 90s & Y2K trends and upcycled fashion.

We have 2 store locations:
122 W 18th St Kansas City, MO
800 Massachusetts St Lawrence, KS

We met while working together at Forever 21.

Both our backgrounds are in visual merchandising.

At Forever we managed store presentation & displays,
as well as working on the team that toured the country opening new store locations.

We also shared a love for thrifting, so about a year after getting married we decided to open our first vintage shop on Etsy in 2013.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
We’ve definitely had a lot of obstacles; covid being a big one. Since 2020 inflation has made everything we need to buy go up in cost from store supplies to cost of goods. . We’ve had to do a lot of adapting as people shop more and more cheap fast fashion. We feel it’s important to keep our items affordable but reasonable to keep our doors open.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Since 2017 we’ve opened 3 store locations, and done 1 store expansion.

When it comes to each of our roles in our shop:

Caleb does all the design and sewing for our vintage renewal pieces.

While Cortney is in charge of store operations and social media.

We both share the task of sourcing everything that comes into our store. Which I’d say is still our favorite part of running Daisy.

What we feel makes Daisy different from other vintage shops, is the up-cycling we do to our renewal pieces and the brand element. We like to curate a strong brand that is true to our own personal taste and connects with our customers.

What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
We love how much our city focuses on community. The city as a whole has a sense of togetherness. And there’s lots of vibrate smaller collectives within the city that each have their own sense of community. The fashion and vintage groups really feel like a neighborhood of friends and family all helping each other out.

The thing I like least about our city…. PARKING.
