Daily Inspiration: Meet Riane Dimarco

Today we’d like to introduce you to Riane Dimarco

Hi Riane, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
For as long as I can remember I’ve always wanted to be a stylist. It’s a passion that was sparked at a young age in big part to my older cousin who is also a stylist. I loved visiting her at her salon and loved everything about the way I felt in that environment. I remember thinking how rewarding it must be to make people feel and look their best selves. My passion for hair never faltered as I got older. I knew this was what I wanted to do and acted as quickly as I could to make it happen. As soon as I graduated high school I went straight into cosmetology at Regency Beauty. From there I tested the waters until I found my first home at Belle Epoque located in the Crossroads. They furthered my career in ways I never thought possible. With continued education in both coloring, and cutting. Opportunities working Kansas City’s Fashion Week. Traveling to New York to style for a NAHA shoot. Getting published for the first time with Kansas City Wedding Magazine. All just to name a few. They truly ignited a fire in me that played a big role in where I am today. Over the last 17 years of being in this industry I’ve worked with incredible stylist who have only continued to fuel my fire. Today, working at Novello Salon & Suites I am achieving more as a color specialist and stylist than I ever thought possible. I think being surrounded by the talent I am is what has pushed me to never settle and to continue to dream beyond what I think is possible.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I wouldn’t say it’s always been a smooth road but one I’ve had so much support in that the tougher moments that were had were minimal because I had the best cheerleaders in my corner. There were moments of self doubt. Especially starting my career at such a young age. While most had started their collage years I jumped right into work. It was an adjustment finding my footing and growing into my brand. There were struggles financially along the way especially as I moved away from a commission based salon into booth rental and learning how to run my own business. My biggest hurdle hit a few years down the road when Covid hit. That was a time no one was prepared for and certainly was one of the most challenging moments in my career. I had just found my groove in running my business and was very comfortable with where I was. My husband and I had started growing our family and had our baby girl at home and suddenly everything was shut down. I was out of work for 3 months. The uncertainty of it all was terrifying. But again, the support system I have with family, friends and my incredible clients got us through. Though it was a tough time it was also a time that opened doors and new opportunities that I’m so grateful for. It’s been a journey I would change nothing about.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a hairstylist who specializes in lived in color, blonding and styling. I’ve loved learning different techniques over the years to provide color that is low maintenance and gives your color a long life span. Allowing you to go 10-14 weeks between appointments. The styling side to my craft has always had a big place in my heart. I love creating hair for special events. Bridal styling being a large part of my career. Along with styled shoots, fashion shows, and other incredible opportunities. I’ve had so many memorable experiences through out the years but moments I’m most proud of are styling Kay Adams for past AFC games, The NFL Draft, and other interviews. I’ve also recently had the honor of styling Andie MacDowell for Kansas City’s Hallmark Christmas Experience. Truly moments I will hold dear to my heart forever. I have such a passion for this industry and there is just nothing more rewarding to me than making the person in my chair feel and look their best self.

Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
I am a born and raised Kansas City girl. I love our community and the way our city has grown over the years. I wouldn’t change a thing, I just want to continue to see our city thrive.
