Today we’d like to introduce you to Dejah Winters
Hi Dejah, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Dear Reader, my name is De’Jah Winters. I am the Proud owner of Dose of DeJah nails. I have been a licensed nail technician in the North land area of Kansas City for 3+ years. I am more than just a business owner. I am an artist, a dreamer, and a testament to the power of passion and perseverance.
What most people don’t know is I started doing my own nails at the early ages of 7. I soon started polishing family members nails and toes which led to my mother investing into my early passion by making my first nail table and nail rack & setting up opportunities for me to polish other little girls nails at birthday party’s. I didn’t know at that time this was the beginning of part of my life’s biggest investment’s.
Despite my love for nails, I didn’t initially see it as a career path. Like many young adults, I worked traditional jobs, balancing my responsibilities as a young adult, & a young mother while still occasionally finding time to treat myself to a good nail service. It wasn’t until the world turned upside down in 2020, during the COVID-19 pandemic, that I had my breakthrough moment. I got my nails done one day, and I didn’t like them at all, That was the day I decided I was going to take nail’s seriously & make a career out of it. I called my Big Sister who also does nails in the Kansas City area and that next day we got busy. I knew nails would open so many doors toward the kind of lifestyle I imagine for myself and my daughter. Being present as a parent is a priority to me. So starting my business allows me the time, & flexibility to do my job as a mother. From there I’ve been on a mission. To perfect my craft. To create a life that will result in financial freedom. My plans for the future is to expand the business In multiple ways. Starting off with Merch, Courses, & shhhh theirs more!
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
This journey has not been easy but allowing God to lead the way helped me with decision making, & getting through the hard parts not everyone can see. The toughest challenge was taking the leap of faith and just starting. Patience and consistency is key to building clientele. Time management as a new business owner was also a challenge. I had to pick up more responsibility than I was used to. But with each challenge that came along God continued blessing me through my clients with theirs words of encouragement. Supportive feedback. & open discussion with other successful business owners.

I specialize in Acrylic nails. Overlays, Builder gel, Manicures , Pedicures & paragon treatments. I’m known for creative or classic looks! What I think sets me apart from others is most of my clients appreciate being able to come and fully relax. I offer A calm 1on1 private nail session. A positive impact on my clients, & I promote nail and skin care products. Im mostly proud of myself for the challenges I took on and the example I’m settling for my daughter.
Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
Advice to those who are just starting is to trust yourself. Believe in yourself. & just start. Start with what you already have. And remember one step at a time!
