Conversations with Carrie Donnici

Today we’d like to introduce you to Carrie Donnici

Hi Carrie, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Michael and Carrie Donnici have spent a lifetime working for other companies learning about business and people. Michael worked at Burd & Fletcher in project management since the age of 18. And Carrie worked at USPS for over a decade, at Liberty Hospital and for her grandfather at Odell Plastics. They have also had side businesses in addition to their day jobs. Michael offers accounting and insurance services, and Carrie has managed a transportation brokerage business since 2016.

Both decided to leave their day jobs and launch Donnici’s Sack Lunches and Catering in February 2024. They combined their passions for food, family and serving people and began testing their new business venture in historic Excelsior Springs, MO.

The need for affordably delicious deli sandwiches and catering seemed to have an appeal to people and businesses in town. So, Michael and Carrie have partnered with the Good Samaritan Center, utilizing their kitchen in an effort to see their dream job come to life.

Michael and Carrie began working on a store front for their deli, as their sack lunches and catering business blossomed. And, eight month’s later, Donnici’s Deli and Market opened its doors in December 2024.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Getting city officials in the small town of Excelsior Springs to move faster than a snail’s pace and acknowledge our calls, needs for inspections, deli layout, parking and signage has been our biggest hurdle. Second biggest hurdle is getting clay county in to do an inspection in a timely manner. All else has gone smoothly.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Donnici’s Deli and Market is a female-owned business, and Owner Carrie is a local and native of Excelsior Springs, MO. She graduated from ESMO high school in 1998. Raising a family and working various jobs has given her a drive and determination to one day own a business that caters to the fast-paced lives we all lead and a need in her hometown.

The one thing that brings us all together is fresh, affordable, scrumptious food. And, Donnici’s Deli and Market will be a business unlike any other in her hometown.

Carrie’s mission is to offer food that’s fast, but fresh, real and convenient, and she knows Donnici’s Deli is just what the people in her hometown need. Her goal is to provide soups, salads, sandwiches, pastas, specials, prepared foods, a deli, market and catering.

Donnici’s Deli and Market will also satisfy a need for people on the go, parents who are balancing their kids’ activities, working and family life and folks of all ages and backgrounds.

What are your plans for the future?
We are looking so forward to opening our doors. We have been doing social media blitz’s building momentum, and we get calls every day with people asking when will we open our doors.

We look forward to bringing our Italian deli and market to a town that has not experienced authentic Italian cuisine. We also want to boost business with the catering element and simplify holiday and nightly cooking for families on the go.
