Check Out Roberta Hejde’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Roberta Hejde

Hi Roberta, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
My passion for massage began 25 years ago while I was studying Physiotherapy in Brazil. After graduating, I specialized in Dermatofunctional Physiotherapy, a field focused on assessing, preventing, and treating skin-related dysfunctions. The goal is to restore the skin’s functionality and aesthetics, promoting quality of life and overall well-being.

During this time, I worked at an aesthetic clinic, treating post-operative plastic surgery patients and expectant mothers with manual lymphatic drainage. I also supervised the body aesthetic procedures department. After five intense years of practice, my first daughter was born, and that same year, my husband received a job offer in Argentina. We moved there for a year until a new opportunity brought us to the United States.

In the U.S., we settled in Kansas City, where we lived for five years, and I welcomed my second daughter. During that time, I devoted myself entirely to motherhood. When my second daughter turned two, I attempted to return to physiotherapy, but soon after, we received another job opportunity that took us back to Brazil.

Upon returning to Brazil and ready to restart my career, I became pregnant with my third daughter. I chose to dedicate myself fully to her, just as I had done with my older children. Once my youngest grew a bit older, the chance to return to Kansas City arose once again.

We arrived in Kansas City in 2020, just two months before the pandemic. The isolation period gave me ample time to reflect on my journey and rediscover what truly brought me joy. As the world began to normalize, I felt it was time to return to what I’ve always loved: caring for people. That’s when I decided to resume my career, finding in massage therapy the perfect blend of my professional experience and my passion for promoting well-being.

This journey, filled with change and challenges, has been deeply enriching. Each step has expanded my perspective and strengthened my commitment to care. It’s a fusion of my academic background, professional experience, and the invaluable lessons I’ve learned through motherhood.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It hasn’t been a smooth road, but every twist and turn has shaped who I am today. My journey began 25 years ago in Brazil, and I paused my career to embrace motherhood and navigate the challenges of relocating internationally.

One of the hardest parts of this journey has been being far away from my family, in Brazil. The emotional distance, especially during milestones and challenges, has often been difficult. However, through it all, my husband and daughters have been my biggest supporters, constantly encouraging me to pursue my passion and adapt to new environments.

Each move—whether to Argentina, Kansas City, or back to Brazil—meant starting over and rebuilding my everything while balancing the demands of raising three daughters. Returning to Kansas City in 2020, just before the pandemic, was especially challenging, but it also gave me the space to reflect on what truly fulfills me.

Despite the struggles, this journey has taught me resilience and adaptability. It has deepened my appreciation for the work I do and the clients I serve. Every challenge has been an opportunity to grow, and I’m grateful for the strength and support that have allowed me to continue doing what I love: helping others on their journey to wellness.
