Check Out Emma Sidener’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Emma Sidener

Hi Emma, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I started my tattooing journey roughly almost 6 years ago. Now I have been back consecutively tattooing for 4 1/2 years now. I’ve always been the type of person who would like learn every skill I can. I have started college a few times for business management, psychology, and veterinary medicine. Finishing veterinary medicine out in Arizona, I moved back to Missouri and realized, well, I found my peace tattooing. I picked back up my machine in the year of 2020 and have not put it back down. My husband and myself own 3 small town tattoo shops in the Sedalia/Warrensburg/Windsor area, buying them from my parents in 2023. All together I have been in the industry for 8 going on 9 years. My step-father/mentor has been tattooing for I believe 25 years now. And he taught me the basics and I took it from there. Now, fast forward to September of 2024, I am working at the most luxurious shop in KC owned by the amazing Austin Campbell. Following him on social medias, I have always been so enthralled with his work. Wanting to be able to produce the work he does, and when I saw the opening he had at his shop, I’m pretty sure I was the first one to message him. It’s such an amazing opportunity to be here, and get to grow and learn more then I ever thought possible. It’s amazing, this industry, it’s a never ending supply of knowledge!

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Being a tattoo artists, 1099 contractor is not a smooth road. It’s a very volatile business. As we are never promised a pay check like you would working at Walmart. You have to have the drive, the dedication to do better. The want to grow. Being a contractor, you have to put your all in everyday, and if you don’t, you’ll fall behind everyone else. Sometimes there would be days, even weeks when it was slow and I wasn’t making enough. But like stated before, the more you put in, the better results you’ll have. One of the best things I tell myself over and over again, great success, calls for great sacrifices. You have to be willing to make those sacrifices, whether big or small to be able to grow.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m a tattoo artist, I specialize in many styles, being watercolor, fine line, traditional, neo-traditional. I would say I am most known for my fine lines. And it sounds easy, but there is actually a lot when it comes to fine line tattoos; making sure they don’t fade, making sure you don’t blow out. You are using one of the smallest needles known to the tattoo industry and they are fickle little beings! I am most proud of my fine lines! When I first started I preached that I would never learn them, they are too hard. But now looking back, I absolutely love fine lines. Throw some thicker line depths in there and you have a beautiful piece

Alright, so to wrap up, is there anything else you’d like to share with us?
