Daily Inspiration: Meet Greg Lafollette

Today we’d like to introduce you to Greg Lafollette

Hi Greg, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I grew up singing in the church choir, studied music in college, and have led musical worship in many settings. I now spend my time serving a local parish, Christ Church Anglican, and producing music. I’m particularly proud of two projects that launched this year. The first is a band with my wife called Westheight Manor (named after the Wyandotte County historic neighborhood in which we live) and the other is called Always and Everywhere. This is a collection of songs for kids to use in corporate worship settings.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Although I grew up in Kansas City, I moved to Nashville and lived there for 12 years. Anyone who has traveled or relocated for work knows the myriad losses that can bring. I missed Godfather’s Pizza. I missed birthdays. I missed the World Series run in 2015. While living there though, I honed my craft as a songwriter, performer, and producer; and that experience solidified the career I have now.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I bring the “helper” or “guide” part of myself to all of the work that I do. Whether it’s producing a record for an artist, pastoring a worship service, or hosting a songwriting retreat. I want to create and help create art that is both vulnerable and invitational, beautiful while functional.
By the way, a fun KC-centric thing: you may have seen me as a frontman for my yacht rock tribute band Summer Breeze. We’ve been together for 15 years, sharing the stage with artists like Ben Harper, Nathaniel Rateliff, and Wynonna Judd.

What matters most to you? Why?
I want people who spend time with me to feel seen and heard. If I can accomplish that, I’ll be satisfied with that day’s work.
