Today we’d like to introduce you to Lindsey Tuinstra, Caitlyn Davis
Hi Lindsey Tuinstra, Caitlyn Davis, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
We (Lindsey Tuinstra, Caitlyn Davis, and Bella Parker) started out as a 3-piece in Jefferson City when we were about 13. We had just picked up guitar and bass to play together for fun. Soon we started playing open mic nights at a the Mission, a local Jefferson City bar playing covers. Then we started writing our own originals, which led to releasing out first originals, Inflated and Earrings. Around this time, were playing at local restaurants and events. With the help of local business sponsors and Jeff City parks and rec, we put together an annual youth music festival for 3 years called End of Summer Jam. In 2022, We graduated high school and all moved to Kansas City for college. We added guitarist Eric Hargis and drummer Matthew Mulder that fall, and have been playing at local venues while writing and recording more originals. We hope to have our first album out soon.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
When we first started, it was really hard to find places to play as young musicians. As we’ve grown, it’s been a struggle to find time to pursue music while also juggling school and jobs. Recently, our lead vocalist Bella finished college and moved away from Kansas City, so we have been redefining our sound.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
We were the only all-female band playing in Jefferson City at the time (that we know of). We started out without a lot of technical knowledge and have really grown as musicians and a band. We’ve grown so much even since our released recordings, and we’re excited to get our new songs out.
Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
We hope to see more women, gender nonconforming, queer, and POC -fronted bands in mainstream music. We visited a music festival in Omaha, Girl Camp, this summer, and it was so exciting to see more representation on stage.
