Community Highlights: Meet Joey Beim of River Market Liquor

Today we’d like to introduce you to Joey Beim.

Hi Joey, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I got the idea for a liquor store in the River Market neighborhood years ago and when a space that was the right size became available, my family and I jumped on it. My sister lived in the River Market years ago and I’ve lived here for the past 5 years. We love the area and think it has a lot of potential to grow and become even more active and vibrant. We’re excited to be a part of the neighborhood and contribute to that growth with River Market Liquor.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It was a long road to get to opening day. My sister, brother in law, and I have worked hard to get everything together while having full time jobs and lives. Getting the proper licenses took a lot of time and effort. There were many long nights of cleaning, putting up shelves, installing mop sinks, putting in new lights and also getting things lined up with distributors. Luckily we have a supportive family and many friends in the neighborhood that were willing to come help. We’re also lucky to have an Uncle that is in the industry that was there to provide guidance along the way and we’re grateful to have friends to help with everything from accounting, marketing, security, to even coming in and working the register.
