Today we’d like to introduce you to Christopher Bovance
Hi Christopher, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I begin my photography career in 2008 working for “The Evening Whirl” a Saint Louis based newspaper that highlighted urban entertainment and noteworthy achievements by African Americans. After three amazing years I moved on to doing photography in nightclubs, print photos for $10 a photo. I eventually upgraded to provide headshots services and wedding photography in Kansas City after my move from Saint Louis
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The journey has been relatively smooth, though not without challenges. I began my career in Saint Louis, MO, following my time at a respected inner-city newspaper, The Evening Whirl. My wife (then girlfriend) and I relocated to Kansas City, KS, to care for her mother after her cancer diagnosis. Following the move, I had to rebuild my client base from the ground up.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
What sets me apart as a photographer is my unwavering drive, dedication, and the high-quality tools I’ve invested in over the years. As I enter my 16th year in the industry, I still rely on the same premium lenses I’ve carefully curated throughout my career. For example, my Sigma 85mm 1.4, purchased in 2012, continues to deliver outstanding results, even as recently as a few weeks ago. I proudly attribute my success to Nikon, the only brand I’ve used throughout my journey.
What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
I believe AI is leveling the playing field for photographers entering the industry, enabling them to deliver professional-quality images more efficiently. At the same time, it offers seasoned photographers an opportunity to elevate their work by reducing the time required to complete assignments. As short-form video continues to dominate social media with no signs of slowing down, it has prompted me to expand my skillset into videography. To support this transition, I have invested in a drone and outfitted my camera for video product.ion alongside still photography
