Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Emily Morse
Hi Dr. Emily, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Health and wellness have always fascinated me because of the way they allow people to feel. I studied agriculture in high school and college and loved learning how we can intentionally impact livestock and plant health through nutrition and hormones. As I was going through my own health challenges in college, I began to develop a curiosity for human nutrition and wellness. I treated myself as my own guinea pig and tried out different ways of eating and exercising to see what fueled me the best, leading to increased energy and better mental health. After working as a nurse’s aide on a hospice/oncology floor my senior year, I realized I had major concerns with the conventional model of care. I wanted to be able to do more for my patients than treat them when they were sick – I wanted to prevent them from getting sick at all. This led my to discovering naturopathic medicine. I attended an accredited 4 year doctoral program at Sonoran University in Phoenix, AZ where I graduated with my naturopathic medical degree in 2022 at 30 weeks pregnant with my son. After taking boards, my husband and I moved back home to Kansas City. After having my son that spring, I decided I wanted to start my own medical practice. I have been open to patients since February 2024 and love treating women’s health, specifically preconception, postpartum, and hormone health. I’m so thankful to be able to offer gentle, early interventions to my patients in the forms of acupuncture, herbal medicine, homeopathy, nutraceuticals, and lifestyle medicine. There is nothing better than seeing patients have improved energy and more joy for living because they are no longer in physical pain or discomfort.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Each season of my journey held its own challenges – passing organic chemistry in undergrad, online schooling during the Covid years, learning how to run a business and being a new mom most recently. I wouldn’t change anything about my path. It has provided a testament that I share with my patients: by taking care of your physical health, you build up a reservoir of strength and resilience needed to handle the hard things life throws at you.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Joyspring Wellness?
Joyspring Wellness is a medical practice that operates based on the principles of naturopathic medicine:
1. First Do No Harm
2. The Healing Power of Nature
3. Identify and Treat the Causes
4. Doctor as Teacher
5. Treat the Whole Person
6. Prevention
I offer 45-90 minute visits that allow time to deep dive into patients health history and symptoms. I practice using a whole-person model and try to identify the root cause of their issues instead of masking symptoms. I am able to use a variety of healing tools such as herbal medicine, homeopathy, nutrition, lifestyle medicine, mind-body medicine, and nutraceuticals. I have extensive training in pharmacology and run thorough lab work on each new patient.
My true passion is helping women feel their best so that they can have the energy and vitality needed to show up for their lives. Preconception, fertility, postpartum, and any hormonal concerns are my areas of expertise and what I am most passionate about. When women are well nourished and emotionally balanced they are able to lead happier, healthier lives which creates a ripple effect in their families and communities.
I currently offer 1:1 visits but I am planning on expanding into group coaching and virtual courses in the near future to make my medicine more accessible.
We’re always looking for the lessons that can be learned in any situation, including tragic ones like the Covid-19 crisis. Are there any lessons you’ve learned that you can share?
The Covid-19 years were a wake up call to many. From a holistic healthcare perspective, this crisis revealed how chronically ill most Americans are. It showed that there has to be an attitude of personal responsibility and proactiveness toward pursuing good health. I think that healthy, genuine human connection is under prescribed medicine and that isolation can be just as deadly as a virus.
