Check Out Tru Marshall’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tru Marshall

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I’ve always had my eyes on the beauty industry. I grew up in it. With getting my hair done by aunts and cousins to then in turn helping out where I could. I ended up being my own hairdresser and also would braid from time to time. I kept my talent to myself and close family members/friends.

In 2017, with the push from these beloved individuals, I decided to pursue my passion professionally. This push granted me access to unlimited opportunities and resources, including becoming a cosmetologist and a cosmetology nstructor.

I am fortunate and forever grateful.

I LOVE WHAT I DO!

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has not been smooth. It’s long hours and constant running around. You have to stay “in the know” of popular new trends, product knowledge, and some how become a social media content creator. It is a day by day process. It’s also hard to deal with some customers. You have to stay professional and focused but yet be clear and stand your ground.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I specialize in natural hair, and protective hair styles which includes; crochet styles, faux locs, sew-ins, quick weaves, blowouts, silk press, cornrow/braid styles, knotless box braids, starter locs, loc installation, loc retwist/styles, etc.

I can also assist with color and lightening services, haircuts, shortcuts/styles, conditioning treatments, etc. I am into healthy hair all the way!
I feel like I’m set apart by my customer service. I understand people and what they want or need. I believe that you must lead with love and kindness. Respect will always follow when you care.

Who else deserves credit in your story?
My cousin Kim and my dear friend Aisha were a big inspiration to me when I learned locs. They were always patient with my questions.
Paul Mitchell The School, Overland Park had amazing teachers when I attended. They gave me their best and didn’t let up on me! I’ll never forget them, Ms Lisa, Sarah, Lauren, Kayla, Savannah, Miranda, and the best theory teacher ever, Tre. The director Michele, she kept me grounded along with education director Jessica. They would let me vent and cry lol, but sent me back out there to conquer!! They had my back! And still do!
