Rising Stars: Meet Ashley Fonseca of Living in Kansas City

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashley Fonseca

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I always had a creative spirit. It wasn’t until around the pandemic that I started illustrations as a side hustle, which ultimately grew into branding + design. I love listening to stories of why business owners choose to start their businesses and problem-solve with them to create a brand they love and that represents what they stand for.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
As with all entrepreneurial ventures, the ride isn’t always smooth. Two years ago, my husband and I moved to Kansas City for his job, however, my entire client-base was in Hawaii. The time difference and lack of in-person relations, were the struggles I’ve faced as I worked to maintain and grow my business. Juggling client meetings at odd hours and trying to create meaningful connections over video calls have proved challenging.

It wasn’t easy, but these obstacles ultimately pushed me to grow professionally and explore new avenues for expanding my business beyond geographical limitations.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
My work includes graphic, branding, and web design.

I’d describe my branding style as minimalistic and intentional.

Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
To anyone starting out, I’d recommend utilizing every free resource you can and for what you can afford, reinvest in yourself through courses.
