Daily Inspiration: Meet Joseph Rogers

Today we’d like to introduce you to Joseph Rogers

Hi Joseph, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I founded the company with my bother Isaac (originally “KC Lawnscapes LLC.”) in 2019 with the desire to build new things, meet more people, and provide high-quality services! For us, this looked like mowing yards and helping homeowners tidy up the landscapes around their property. In the beginning, we started small, focusing on smaller jobs such as bush trimming, fertilizing and mowing. As time went on and our reputation for excellent work, respectful customer service and consistency grew, we began expanding our service range to include hardscaping work such as retaining walls, patios and more.

Beginning in 2024, our company did a full-scale switch from offering primarily lawn and landscaping services to a hard focus on designing and creating outdoor living spaces. This was a huge move for our team but one that we felt was the next step in our company’s journey! We currently focus on landscaping and outdoor living area renovations. From smaller garden renovations to full-scale outdoor kitchen remodels, our primary objective in our work is now focused on transforming homes in the Kansas City and Leawood area.

Since we started, we’ve learned a lot from our successes and failures. We’ve been blessed with amazing opportunities, employees, and (most importantly) customers! In everything we do, we seek to honor one another, the people we serve, and Jesus Christ. We look forward to working with you!

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
While the road has been incredible, it has been anything but smooth. There are an incredible number of responsibilities in running business, ranging from managing employees to curating a wonderful customer experience to initiating company growth during slow times. As a small business, it can be extremely hard to get your name out to the surrounding community and even harder to keep it there.

Finding our identity as a small business has also been something that has gone through a lot of change over the years. Establishing our corporate vision, prices, organizational structure, etc. takes a lot of time and is nearly never completely “finished”. It is hard to find the balance between falling in line with your competitors while also setting yourself apart in a way that customers don’t find too off-putting.

If this company has taught me anything, it’s the value of patience, hard work and trust. Things take time and rarely does anything happen overnight. It takes consistent hard work and the patience to see the results come in.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
We create outdoor living spaces that are known for their durability, unique design and customer-focused design. We specialize in brick work which often materializes in the form of patios, walkways, retaining walls, driveways, water and fire features, and more!

Over the past few years, we have gotten the chance to wok on a variety of different projects however our favorite ones are our patios. There is something special about building a space that you know will be used for rest, parties and other events for years to come. There is so much a homeowner can do with a patio which is an exciting prospect for us as we’re building. We get to be apart of crafting something that will be used to make memories for years to come which is incredibly special.

We love surprises, fun facts and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
We are completely family-owned and have been so since day one. While this may not be a completely shocking thing in the small business world, it’s something that we believe tells a lot about the way in which we operate. So much of our business revolves around relationships: with our customers and each other.

None of us would be doing what we were doing if it wasn’t for the bond of family that brings us back together at the end of every work day. Regardless of how good or bad our days are, we always have each other and nothing can take that away. We couldn’t imagine doing this without each other and we’re all incredibly blessed that we get to tackle exciting projects together every day.
