Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashley Reddick
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
About 13 years ago I started running merch for a local band out of St. Louis Mo. After attending several shows and not having the proof in hand to share my experience with others I started packing around a small digital camera to capture the moments. My passion for concert photography progressed from there and I found I highly enjoy making the bands look good while they are rocking the stages. Now that my kids are teenagers and I have way more flexibility in my day to day life, I have spent the last year pushing my photography business in the local scene based in Columbia, Mo. I am now able to travel with bands to out of town/state shows, in fact I did my first small tour run in May of 2022 for 2 weeks, traveling on a bus with 6 other dudes having the real “Road Life” experience.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I gotta say, the last year has been pretty smooth. I have worked so hard on making a name for myself and building trust with local and national bands. The only challenge for me is I’m basically working 2 full time jobs but i also enjoy challenges.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
My day to day life, I’m a secretary to the Director of Custodial Services. I oversee payroll for 200+ employees, I schedule the interviews, walk new hires through the onboarding process and make sure everyone is getting paid. I’m also a mother of 3 children ages 20, 17 and 15. Concert photography is my side hustle that I specialize in, it fulfills that “other” part of my that I cant in my day to day life.
Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
Get to know you local venues and apply for national shows that come through. Get to know your local scene and reach out to the bands when they have a gig coming up. Network as much as possible on the socials and share your experience!
