Today we’d like to introduce you to Liu Khang
Hi Liu, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Liu Khang is a first generation Vietnamese American Artist based out of Kansas City Missouri. She is constantly trying to find way to make life bigger than ever! Growing up in a dual environment, she’s found a passion for arts and people in every sense. As she finds herself in this journey of hers, she hopes to reach people in any and every way by documenting some her most vulnerable transitions in life through music.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Absolutely not but anything worth something will never be a smooth road. I think a lot of people have the idea that artists in general have a good sense or idea of themselves but that’s not true. For me, my creative process and outlet is just another way to find myself. So like any human being, we go through some really high, highs and some of the lowest lows. I just happen to be documenting my journey as I go.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m an artist by the name of Liu Khang, I’m a rapper, singer, writer and performer. I think what sets me aside from a lot of artists is the refusal of being boxed in. I often am asked, “what genre do you do?” And there isn’t a correct answer for that! I love trying new sounds and new techniques. As I’ve answered in the previous question, this creative journey of mines is all a game of finding out who I am and there shouldn’t be a time limit on knowing yourself and exploring your boundaries. So if there’s anything I’m proud of, it’s the spontaneity that I carry in my life and my creativity.
What matters most to you? Why?
God and family. During my journey, I’ve learned that we can get lost and look to things that can misguide us. I’m a firm believer that you have nothing to build on without a solid foundation. A foundation of principality and morality, a foundation that you can always turn back and look to when you go astray. For me, that is God and my Family. It took me a while to learn and realize that prioritizing god and family is only prioritizing myself. For we are created in the image of god and shall put no other being for our god. Therefore god is within us all and I heavily believe that we should treat each other that way and with that, in this lifetime I have learned to pour into those who pour into me and love the rest from afar. Therefore, family and god will always come first for me because they constantly pour life into me and without them, I’d have no foundation.
