Today we’d like to introduce you to Tiffany Simons
Hi Tiffany, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Growing up, my exposure to beauty industry was limited to the occasional nail salon visit with my mother. While I admired the artistry, makeup and skincare were foreign concepts to me. In fact, I was discouraged from wearing makeup altogether.
Struggling with acne, I sought basic remedies but lacked access to professional guidance. It was through YouTube that I discovered the transformative power of the beauty industry. The creativity and self-expression it offered ignited a passion within me.
Initially drawn to makeup artistry, I enrolled in beauty school. However, during the process, I realized my true calling was in esthetics. The opportunity to help others improve their skin health resonated deeply with me.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Absolutely not, beauty school was one of the hardest things in my adult life! Anyone who’s ever enrolled into a beauty school knows exactly what I went through. Then after I graduated, I found myself in a booth rental situation that wasn’t a great fit for me. I struggled with feeling like I wasn’t good at doing makeup, wax, or facials—pretty much my job. I had a small suite that I abruptly had to close due to a dishonest landlord. I’ve had hundreds of dollars of makeup stolen out of my suite. There was one year I think I might have made $2,000 that entire year. I had so many times I gave up but my love for esthetics has pulled me right back. Even now after 11+ years in the beauty industry, I still have so many obstacles.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
As a licensed esthetician and instructor, I specialize in waxing, acne and hyperpigmentation treatments, makeup, and education. In 2021, I was honored to receive the KCPCA award for Best Esthetician. I became an Education Ambassador for Skin Script RX, where I share my passion for skincare teaching at beauty schools a round the greater Kansas City metropolitan area.
Beyond my professional accomplishments, I’ve founded a nonprofit organization to provide feminine hygiene products and resources to single mothers and girls in need. I’m the proud owner of SknClusive Beauty Spa & Education Center in Raytown, Missouri. My work has been featured in numerous publications, and I’ve had the privilege of working with local celebrities such as the Mayor of Kansas City.
My space serves as a hub for aspiring makeup artists and estheticians, offering mentorship and opportunities for growth. I’m dedicated to empowering others and making a positive impact on the beauty industry.
Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
My advice is to focus on your studies and avoid getting caught up in distractions. Post-graduation, working alongside experienced estheticians can provide invaluable hands-on learning. If that’s not feasible, consider listening to esthetician podcasts, joining online communities, and building relationships with local professionals.
Remember, progress takes time. Be patient with yourself, and don’t be too hard on yourself for any mistakes. Looking back, I wish I had been a more dedicated student with better attendance.
