Today we’d like to introduce you to Prince Miller
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My journey began when I started making YouTube videos in second grade. My mom introduced me to the internet when I was four, and seeing people create videos and tell stories inspired me to make my own. All I wanted to be when I grew up was a content creator, but it wasn’t until I got to High School that I started taking videography seriously. During my freshman year, I realized my window for making it big as a YouTuber was closing, so I began to focus more on school. I picked up sports, playing football and basketball for my school. I took a Video Production class my freshman and sophomore year, which used all the skills I learned from making videos in the past, and later tried out for my school’s Video Team, KSMS. During the football season of my junior year, I was injured and thus sidelined for the first couple of games of the season. This gave me an opportunity to record football games, which I had always wanted to try, but never got the chance to. Filming those games allowed me to fall in love with sports videography. I was able to tell a story and stay connected to the game at the same time. After football season, some players asked me to make them some graphics to help with their recruiting process. I used some of my skills from making thumbnails on YouTube to make their graphics. After that, I started sharing my work on Instagram, where people all around the world could see. This helped me gain clients and start getting paid for my work. In my senior year, my video class took a trip down to Two Circles Made, one of the biggest video creation agencies in Kansas City. They create media for KC Current, Sporting KC, and F1. My work on Instagram helped me get an internship with the company and I was able to do graphic design and video editing work for major sports teams such as KC Current, Sporting KC, and DC United. During basketball season, a few fellow videographers and I filmed a documentary for our Girl’s Basketball team and their run for the State Championship. The documentary was a success, and we got to capture one of the best seasons in history, with the team going 24-1 and winning the State Title. After graduation, I was hired to be the Videographer for Pitt State Football, where I run the social media, create videos, and create graphics for the team.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The journey has not always been smooth, there have been a few potholes along the way. The feeling of not belonging and doubting my skills, better known as Imposter Syndrome, has held me back more than I’d like to admit. Putting myself down, having unrealistically high standards, and comparing myself to other creatives in the same space have benefitted me when it came to improving my work. Yet, I still never felt satisfied or proud of my work. I’ve combated this, by talking to people about it in the same space as me and surrounding myself with people who help me build my self-confidence.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a Sports Creative. I specialize in Graphic Design, Videography, and Photography. Some of the work I’m most proud of is my work with Sporting KC, KC Current, DC United, and the SMS Girls Basketball team. What sets me apart from most creatives are my skills in sports graphic design, most creatives can’t provide all 3, which makes me different from other creatives.
Are there any books, apps, podcasts or blogs that help you do your best?
I love listening to music while I work or do anything for that matter, and Spotify gets the job done every time. All of my inspiration comes from either TikTok or Pinterest.
