Meet Jennifer Berry and Tracey Pierce of Birch House Clothing Co.

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jennifer Berry and Tracey Pierce

Hi Jennifer and Tracey, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
We are Jenn and Tracey and have been best friends since middle school. We have always talked about doing some type of business together but never knew exactly what. When Jenn lost her corporate job in Feb of 2023 this was a perfect time to get our business started. While serving on our kids pta we realized there was a need for a apparel vendor who could provide cute quality spirit wear items in a timely manner. This is how Birch House clothing co was born. We did quite a bit of research on the best printing methods and what we wanted our product to look and more importantly feel like. We didn’t love the feel of vinyl and screen printing so we decided to start our business with a dtg (direct to garment) printer. This provides the softest feel of the shirt, as it prints ink directly into the material vs laying on top of the shirt. The name Birch House comes from a combination of the streets we grew up on (Birchwood and Clubhouse). This is where we met and became life long friends.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
NO def not a smooth road. We both had never ran a business and really had no idea where to start. One thing that we wanted from the very beginning is to provide amazing customer service and communication. We found those 2 things were lacking in other vendors we had used for our printing needs and we both agreed these 2 things would be what was most important to our business. We know that if we treat people right and with kindness and fairness we will have repeat customers for life. We had never used an industrial printer like the one we are using now so that was a bit of a learning curve and we used quite a few shirts as we would try every single shirt we printed before giving to the customer.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Our business was built on providing quality apparel and fair prices with the best customer service around. We strive to make every single customer happy and want to be known as their “shirt girls”. We print apparel using a dtg direct to garment printer. What sets us apart from other apparel vendors is there is no minimum order and our customer service. What makes us most proud brand wise is seeing our shirts around town, especially in our kids schools where we are the spirit wear vendors. We also have done spirit wear for our elementary school here in Lee’s Summit and our high school that we attended together many many years ago, so that was pretty special too. We also have done numerous fundraising shirts for benefits of people in need. We have provided money back to them as they are going through hard times and that makes us so happy to be able to help others.

Can you share something surprising about yourself?
While we are best friends and have things in common we are completely opposite. With our business, this was actually very easy, because we fell right into our roles.

Opposites Jenn loves girlie and all the pink. Tracey does NOT 🙂
Tracey loves sitcoms and the sound of Seinfeld makes Jenn cringe.
Jenn can talk to a stranger for an hour while Tracey does not.

Also we have 5 kids between the 2 of us, and they are all so close and such good friends.
