Today we’d like to introduce you to Monica Ruiz
Monica, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
So…I’ve always loved acting I did some improv growing up never anything wild. I was in orchestra in H.S loved the whole stage feeling even though I was always in the pit, I loved the idea of one day that could me. After all, I’m a Leo! And I love the adrenaline of public speaking or being in a crowd and captivating the audience. So fast foward! I graduated H.S then went to college following the path of what was to be expected of me! I married my grade school sweetheart we started having kiddos and life just happened.
I’m a nurse and have been in the field for 15 years! Love my job I love helping people and fixing them making them better. Then covid happened and everything went to crap. Then on top of that my father was diagnosed with a terminal cancer and my world was crumbling and everything I knew and what was expected in my life was crashing. I felt I was suffocating and needed an outlet. So, I decided one day after watching Emily in Paris and binging 4 episodes at 3:00 am I said to myself, “ I’m going to do that.” Then everything changed and began my acting journey as a rookie and do what I’ve always wanted to do 15 years ago and the rest is history!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It hasn’t been easy. The largest obstacle was managing my family life with kids not disrupting their routine and my husband hard to be away from the family. His concern me not being close to the family if I book jobs. Also managing my nursing career too.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m most proud of being able to book my first audition I ever did and to have booked it! Also from that having two talent agents, now Sag Aftra in two years starting my journey which hasn’t been easy while maintaining my family stability and Nurse career.
We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
My favorite childhood memory oh my gosh! I have so many! We come from the most special family and am blessed. I would say our family vacations to Mexico. My dad whose in heaven now loved planning our family vacations and were the most special he loved pampering us and taking us to the nicest resorts!
Also being in California every summer my mom would let my little brother and so spend time with her sister and travel and go on amazing hiking adventures and experience the best dining experiences. Like I said lucky to have the best family!
