Today we’d like to introduce you to Brandon Clark.

Brandon Clark

Hi Brandon, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I started a landscape business eight years ago. It fell in my lap. I was a waiter at a restaurant and Leawood Kansas. There was 12 pots that needed plants so I offered to spruce them up. The patrons of the restaurant were soon asking me to do the same at their homes. And eventually they wanted Landscaping. I thought I needed it clever and catchy name for the business so I named it. Plant marks the pot.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
My first four years in business I was still working full-time at the restaurant. I didn’t think I would be able to drum up enough business to step out full-time. Then Covid happened. locally I fell into the essential business category and had subscribed to a well-known marketing platform known as Home Advisor now Angie’s list a year or two prior. Suddenly, I had more work than I could handle was making a full-time income and doing what I loved which was a hobby for me to begin with. This last year Has provided many ups and downs with competition stronger than ever, rising inflation, and many homeowners have done their home improvement projects over the last three years. Economist and other experts say that now the average consumer is focused on traveling and getting away from the home. So now whole slew of challenges are on the horizon..

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Plant marks the pot landscape specializes in the design and layout of your trees, shrubs, mulch, decorative gravel, Retaining Wall and paver patios. My overall aim is to always make a statement with different colors and textures. originally in college, I studied architecture and urban design. So quite often when formulating a design it’s on paper, but not just any paper a nice velum. Using draftsmanship different line weights, T squared Straight lines and elevation drawings as well. So when I present to the client, they can see a realistic view of what they would see, as opposed to Just a site plan

We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
As a reflect back on life, I can’t say any of it is luck. Sure there’s right place and right time but that might come down to fate. There still had to be action. I still had to put myself out there. I still had to do things over and over again. I still had to go when things got extremely difficult. I had to work when it was 105°. I’ve had to work when it was 10°. I’ve had to work and pouring rain. I’ve had trucks breakdown. I’ve had customers not pay the truth is when you’re an entrepreneur your main job is to be a problem solver and action taker. Your capacity for risk must be at at least a level seven or eight in many cases because you can’t quite see around every corner. Things are going to happen.
