Meet Maddison Ogden of Madd Honey LLC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Maddison Ogden

Hi Maddison, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Since the age of 6 I’ve wanted to be a rockstar. I grew up singing in the kids church choir, singing at home with my mom, and singing Britney Spears or Backstreet Boys at my grandparent’s pool house. In those young years I never saw any other future for myself but to sell out arenas.

As I got older I continued to participate in Musical activities anywhere I got the chance. I did choir every year, I auditioned for any role in the musical, and even tried out for the X Factor at 15 years old. While those things all made me the musician I am today they also taught me how to work as a team and that humbleness is strength.

My school career was coming to an end, and I realized soon I’d have no outlet for expression and needed to search for a new musical space. My parents helped me search for new options and we found School of Rock, which I attribute much of my success to. For three years I learned how to play the guitar, how to use my voice, and how to (minimally) play the drums. The School of Rock had a mission to teach kids how to perform in a band setting and ultimately how to use what they teach in a real-world setting. I got to travel the U.S. and perform for thousands of people through this program and started multiple bands at the young age of 16.

I made so many friends and started a band with a few called Minor Rewind, which was active for almost 7 years. In that band I learned how to contact people to book gigs, save money to keep a business strong, and how to be a professional gigging musician.

I’m 27 now and over the past 10 years I’ve written and released music under the name MADDi and I’ve been so thankful for everything I’ve learned while getting to live my dream every day. I’ve also learned that It’s incredibly different for a woman in the scene than it is for a man. Thanks to my friends in the scene and my multiple mentors Deann Kinsch, Amanda Alvarez, and Dana Sterner I’ve always felt supported as a strong successful woman.

I’m proud to say that I’m running my own business and using all of the tools that my past has put in my toolbox while performing all over the U.S. every weekend with my band Madd Honey. My bandmates and I have a dynamic that makes this business fun every day and keeps us continuously climbing to success. I still plan to sell out every arena.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Music is an incredibly difficult road but incredibly rewarding. Booking gigs is never guaranteed and they can get canceled for any reason at any time. Working in the music scene as a woman has its challenges and often times people assume I don’t have an equal piece of knowledge. The stress can be overwhelming and taking care of your mental and physical health is a task that needs attention constantly.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
While Madd Honey is known for as a band I consider us to be a business as well. Madd Honey is a band that specializes in weddings, private parties, and party band services. We are currently known for our work with Tin Roof and working with them as a traveling party band.

I’m most proud of us for our ability to get on our feet swiftly and successfully run a smooth operation as a group with equal effort. While we are partners and bandmates, we are also best friends.

I want your readers to know that we are available for any party band services, and we will show up with a smile and bring an amazing show to them.

Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
When finding a mentor make sure it’s someone you know you can trust and someone who will take the time out of their busy schedule to make you feel important. I met my mentors by putting myself in public, supporting other musicians, and stepping out of my comfort zone to ask questions and seek advice.
