Today we’d like to introduce you to Michal Lackey

Hi Michal, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
When I just graduated Beauty School I started as a stylist at a salon. As a baby hairstylist, I thought it was the perfect fit. But as I kept working there I realized how differently I was treated. I was forced to clean trash cans in front of clients, I was also punished for just trying to do my job, on top of mental and emotional manipulation. So after only 4 months of working there, I decided to quit and go out on my own. I was TERRIFIED! I had no clients of my own, I had no idea how to run a business, and I had NO MONEY. But I started anyways, and got to work. My family supported me endlessly and are the ONLY reason why I am still open today. They helped push me and they believed in me even when I didn’t believe in myself. My journey has had so many ups and downs, but starting Black Swan was truly the best decision of my life, and I want to help other people feel confident and beautiful in their own skin.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has definitely been a bumpy road, when I started I had no money, no clients, and I had no idea how to run a business or be a successful hair stylist. I was completely over my head when I first opened Black Swan.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a hairstylist/owner of Black Swan. I specialize in hair color, textured hair, and curls.

I am most proud of being able to help people who never had a good experience getting their hair done. So many people who look like me have had their hair botched or ruined by someone who didn’t understand how to take care of their curly hair. I wanted to become someone curly haired people can trust with their hair.
