Today we’d like to introduce you to Sophia Greene
Hi Sophia, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I actually fell into the modeling world! I was a gymnast for 10 years and spent every waking minute in the gym, even going as far as being homeschooled. When I was 16 I fell 8-9 feet from the high bar and fractured my spine and tailbone, it took me out and I was devastated. Several months later, my mom surprised me with tickets to Kansas City Fashion Week in the front row and it was love at first sight! I fell in love with the lights, the outfits, the talent and decided right then and there that modeling would be my next big adventure. It surprised my parents and they did everything to help me. It’s weird that it’s been 2 and a half years since then and I’ve met people I consider family! Now acting was completely different. Growing up, movies were a huge part of my life. I think I’ve been analyzing movies, making my own, writing them, since I could speak! I fell in love with that industry as well. In middle school I tried theater and that was a disaster, it was nothing like what I saw on tv. Everyone was so confident and wasn’t afraid to be themselves and I was a trainwreck exploding with anxiety, so I took to being backstage instead. When I became homeschooled I couldn’t act anymore in theater and never considered doing film and tv, until 2022. I did 1 short film (with only 2 anxiety attacks!) and once again it was love at first sight! I haven’t looked back since!
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I think I’ve had a relatively smooth road in a professional sense! I’ve had some little bumps here and there but nothing has thrown me too much yet. I wish I could say that my biggest struggle is my anxiety but that doesn’t come close to anything related to my gymnastics ending accident. Since my fall I can’t bend backwards and I can’t stand for long periods of time. It took loads of MRI’s, X-Rays, and other obscure tests to learn what was wrong with my spine even before my fall. One of the vertebras in my spine doesn’t behave like it’s supposed to and is “wrong” in a sense. My lower spine has been bone-on-bone since I was born and when I fell it got even worse. After we knew what was wrong we had options, and one of those being a bilateral spinal ablation essentially they place needles on both sides of my spine and burn the nerves in my lower back, giving me some relief. I’ve been getting these every 6 months since I turned 18 and it has been a life saver. I’m still in pain but now I can manage it with simple over the counter medicine instead of being in agony. That’s barely the worst part in my opinion, when I got injured, my appetite disappeared. (poof, gone, not here anymore). Nerves are a tricky thing and falling from that height shot the nerves that send hunger cues to my brain. I haven’t had hunger cues since I was 16. (almost 4 years). I dropped weight extremely quickly and was almost hospitalized. It’s not that I don’t want to eat, it’s that my body doesn’t give me the signal of “hey, i’m hungry, lets eat”. I have to force myself to eat everyday and even then it can make me sick, it’s been years and it’s a problem that will most likely go unfixed.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I work as a model and actress in the KCMO area! I also dabble in content creation, social media marketing, videography, and my current actual job. I don’t think I really have a specialty, I love everything that I’ve been able to do and I’m incredibly grateful for every opportunity i’ve gotten. I’ve done everything from runway to bridal and every different area has its own little quirks. Runway gives me a chance to be seen and put my name out there/network. Portraits give me a chance to work with photographers one-on-one and build a professional relationship. Acting projects allow me to network and meet others in the filmmaking industry that is Kansas City. What I’m most known for? Huh… I like to think I’m known for being a kind person. I like to make everyone comfortable on shoots and help everyone out and that looks different every time. Sometimes its telling someone to remove a hair tie from the wrist, or throwing their dress to get the shot, other times its simply being a comforting presences. I’m a really anxious person but if someone else is anxious I can shove mine aside and help them. I’ll probably have an anxiety attack later but nobody has to know…
What does success mean to you?
Success to me is being the best version of myself that I can be. Success is seeing my hard work pay off and knowing that opportunities sent my way were meant to come to me. Sometimes that success is doing multiple shoots and projects in a week while in school. Other times its being invited to something or its as simple as watching my social media analytics go upwards! Every little success I make is a step towards the next big one! With that being said, I think for being freshly 20, Ive had alot of success in my two years, every time I think I’m already at the top of my game, something comes along that pushes me further up the hill!
