Today we’d like to introduce you to Haven Adara
Hi Haven, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Hi there! I’m truly grateful for the chance to share my journey. Growing up in a small town, I was fortunate to be surrounded by music from an early age. My grandmother was a pianist and singer, while my mother and aunts were all singers who harmonized together, creating beautiful three-part melodies. Music runs deep in my family; my cousin Gary, a drummer and producer in Minnesota, has been a constant source of inspiration. He even helped me produce my first EP back in 2016.
Listening to my mother sing along to Patsy Cline and Kelly Clarkson in the backseat of our car are some of my fondest memories. She used to perform at Perkins Park in our hometown during the Fourth of July celebrations, where I spent most of my days.
Although I started singing and songwriting at a young age, I focused on playing clarinet in middle school and dedicated most of my high school years to music and competitions. As a teenager, winning a talent show encouraged me to pick up the guitar. I later taught myself guitar after losing my grandmother. With my mother’s old Califone AX-12 computer microphone, I recorded demos and sent them to a Nashville label—something I now find quite amusing. I’ll never forget the advice from the label manager with a strong Southern accent, who kindly suggested investing in a better microphone and continuing to practice.
Throughout college, I continued to perform, though opportunities were fewer than I’d hoped. Eventually, I traveled to Minnesota and collaborated with my cousin Gary and Nashville artist Tyler King on my first EP. While it’s no longer available, the experience was invaluable.
Today, I create music under the stage name “Haven Adara” and am grateful to be a part of the warm and supportive Kansas City music community. My music is inspired by indie-folk influences, with lyrics drawn from personal experiences of trauma and heartbreak. Artists like Bon Iver, Hozier, and Noah Kahan deeply inspire me.
For the past year, I’ve poured my heart into my upcoming album, ‘Pareidolia,’ scheduled for release in 2024. The album was created at Studio 211 with producer and musician Watchman. Currently, there is a single called ‘Empty Promises’ available on all platforms, which will be remixed and included on the debut album. ‘Pareidolia’ features collaborations with several talented local musicians, including one who is being featured on national television on the show ‘Second Chance Stage,’ set to air on Magnolia Network and Max this coming fall. The dedication shown by my friends who contributed to this album has truly shaped this special and raw collection. I am humbled to have had my single ‘Where I’ve Been’ with Carlo Z aired on the local station 90.9 The Bridge last year, as well as my single ‘Empty Promises’.
Looking ahead, my goal is to release my album, “Pareidolia” followed by a book that I have been writing for a few years as I also wrote and recorded my album. I also want to continue building my band and performing more regularly. So far, I’ve had the privilege of performing alongside local musicians at their Kansas City shows.
