Meet Caitlin Flood of Spinster Bog Witch

Today we’d like to introduce you to Caitlin Flood

Hi Caitlin, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I had the incredible opportunity to attend Ringling College of Art and Design in Florida, a decision that unexpectedly led me to Kansas City. Many of my college friends settled there, and I soon discovered why. KC is a hidden gem for young creators, offering affordability and a vibrant art community.

After graduating from art school, I found myself adrift, grappling with chronic health issues. During this time, I transformed my home into a living art project, filling it with my favorite designs. This passion project caught the eye of a friend, who suggested I open a store. And that’s how Spinster Bog Witch came to life.

Today, I curate a collection of vintage home decor, art, clothing, and books, all chosen for their quality craftsmanship and unique design. As I enter my second year in business, I’m continually fascinated by the joy of connecting people around the world with unusual and captivating items.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The road to a fulfilling creative life is anything but smooth. I struggled with a lack of quality jobs and found myself working on the fringes of the design field I truly loved. After enduring the grind for so long, the constant demands of being an on-staff designer began to wear me down. My burnout became the catalyst for a bold new direction—I decided to start my own store to escape the corporate world.

Launching my store was both exhilarating and challenging. While I was lucky to make sales right away, the steep learning curve of running an online business kept me on my toes. Being in charge of every decision is a mix of difficulty and excitement. Yes, the stress falls squarely on my shoulders, but every time I make a sale, I get to do a happy dance, celebrating the joy of following my passion.

We’ve been impressed with Spinster Bog Witch, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I curate a collection of home decor, art, vintage clothing and books for my store. I look for items that people might have never seen before or are hard to find.

Everyone has different taste in what brings them joy in their life and home; part of the fun of being different is sharing designs with people that might not have considered that item as interesting before. I particularly like contrasts between unusual items; ugly and pretty, dark and light, finely detailed and folk art.

Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers?
I love hearing about the unique treasures you’re adding to your home, bookcase, and closet. Transforming spaces with well-crafted items from the past—whether it’s mid-century modern furniture, Finnish pottery, or rare books—is my passion. Connect with me on social media and share your latest finds and ideas. I’m excited about new collaborations with Kansas City artists and sellers and can’t wait to see how Spinster Bog Witch pieces find a special place in your home.
