Today we’d like to introduce you to Sarah Findley
Hi Sarah, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I have always baked since a teenager but in 2019 I was diagnosed with preeclampsia so when we became pregnant with our second daughter, I knew I had to find a way to keep my blood pressure leveled, especially once I got to my last trimester.
After watching tiktok, i found the art of sugar cookies and decorating with royal icing. Since I was previously an artist I fell in love with being able to create something new with each cookie design!
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has and hasn’t been a smooth road, I owe all of my resilience to my youngest daughter who I was pregnant with when I began this hobby turned business. At the time, we were living in a small townhome with hip to hip kitchen space and I had to really work out how to be productive in a small space. Fortunately, now we are in a house that has a whole island I’m able to spread out and work on!
There has been other struggles along the way, as there is with most things in life. I have a couple things I tell myself each work week to ensure I’m being the most productive which I’ve learned from making mistakes! Many many mistakes. But, I also find baking and decorating very forgiving (in most cases)
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m a sugar cookie artist and baker with Mama Bird Treats. Currently, I specialize in vanilla sugar cookies with vanilla royal icing but I offer a variety of treats.
You will find I’m most known for my attention to detail when decorating sugar cookies
I’m most proud of being able to donate sugar cookies to nonprofit organizations and working with other small businesses.
My character sugar cookies and finer detail sets definitely make my in home bakery unique from any other
If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
Growing up I was very shy and artsy. I was born with an Apraxia which is a speech disorder where I wasn’t able to speak until I was 4 years old. I was taught sign language to communicate with my family but art was also a very strong part of my way of expressing myself as a kid through teenager and now through adulthood
