Exploring Life & Business with Christi Coffey of heARTbeat studio

Today, we’d like to introduce you to Christi Coffey.

Christi Coffey

Hi Christi, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’ve been in arts education for around ten years, working for various studios. Arts education to me is so important to develop skills as a child beyond motor skills. Having a child in the arts helps their confidence, self-esteem, and focus.

As I’ve taught over the years, I’ve become very passionate about arts education and wanted to open my own studio, which is how heARTbeat Studio was founded. I get to do some of my favorite things, like teach piano and bring in some of the best arts educators I know to teach other disciplines like theatre, guitar, voice, visual arts, and dance.

Can you talk to us about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I’m a firm believer in things happening when they are supposed to. For about six months prior to being quite literally handed the keys to this space, I toured other buildings and researched build-outs, but when I walked into this space, I knew it was perfect.

There was only a week gap from the first tour to being handed the keys, which meant I was far behind on branding, website creation, staffing, etc. Previously, I thought there would be a six-month build-out. It all fell into place, and we managed to open it about two months after we were handed the keys. So far, the neighborhood has been so welcoming. I am so happy that heARTbeat landed where it did.

Thanks – so, what else should our readers know about heARTbeat studio?
heARTbeat studio offers weekly and session-based classes in Performing and Visual Arts as well as private music lessons in piano, voice, and guitar.

We have a 6-week summer camp lineup for ages 4-13 that we are very excited about. We hold monthly Parent’s Night Out and Young at heART workshops for adults, such as our monthly Tappy Hour. heARTbeat studio also offers birthday party packages in art, dance, or character parties on the weekends.

What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
There is always something to learn. I have had so much help and support from family and friends and new business owners I’ve met. Connections help us thrive, and I believe there is something to learn from every person you connect with.
